"Aron and his crew did an outstanding job removing the old vinyl siding and installing the new vinyl siding along with the metal roof. He is very easy to work with and is very knowledgeable. We extremely pleased with the finished job and have lots of good comments from the neighbors. I will not hesitate to use this company again in the future and highly recommend them."

"Owner Jon McCoy came out when he said he would and looked at what we had and what we wanted to do. He also offered his own suggestions on things that could be done to make it better and more attractive. He gave us a written quote within a couple of days. He later sent his supervisor, David, out to survey the situation, and he made his own suggestions too. Although we had some minor delays and communication issues at first, we are delighted with the final work product. The owner, Jon McCoy, was at the site every day and I know they had other jobs going on at the same time. We also had some rain delays which nobody can control."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Wood clapboard siding needs frequent sealing to keep it in top condition—likely every two to three years. A sealant helps protect it from both moisture and sunlight damage. Your weather and climate will affect how often you need to seal the siding, but the pros recommend sealing it every couple of years. More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.

While homeowners' insurance can include coverage for siding, general wear and tear of siding is not covered. If your siding is rotting—especially because you haven’t kept up with proper siding maintenance—replacement siding will likely not be covered by your homeowners' insurance policy. Instead, insurance generally covers siding repair or replacement if your siding has been damaged by extreme weather, vandalism, fire, or some kind of collision, like by a vehicle.

Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.

If you’re trying to decide whether clapboard siding is good, know that it’s a solid choice that many homeowners are happy with. It’s one of the more affordable siding options, making it budget-friendly without compromising on quality. Its versatility and cost-effectiveness make it a popular and practical choice for enhancing a home’s exterior.

Pressure washing shou sugi ban siding is generally not a good idea. The charring process used in creating shou sugi ban siding involves burning the wood's surface to achieve its unique appearance and enhanced durability. The charred surface is delicate, and pressure washing can easily damage it. Instead of pressure washing, you can clean it with a soft brush or broom to remove loose debris, followed by a mixture of mild soap and water applied with a soft cloth or sponge.
