She?s also a total color expert, so if you?re stuck trying to pick the perfect shade, she?ll help you nail it. Highly recommend checking her out if you?re thinking of updating your kitchen! "They were great! We’ve have an older home with exterior shingles that have been painted many times. A few years ago, we had Residential Solutions do a full exterior paint that included some exterior sill and shingle replacement. They did a terrific job and the paint has generally held up well. We recently had a new roof put on and noticed we needed some paint repair near the roof. We called Residential Solutions again and they not only touched up the trim but also touched up paint on the shingles to keep the paint in good repair, replaced some shingles and fascia that woodpeckers had ruined, and we had them do interior trim repair and paint an interior stairwell. Just like the first time, the work was well done, and the crew prompt and tidy. They noticed and repaired things we hadn’t even caught. The interior trim repair was done so well you’d never know it was not original to the house. We highly recommend Craig and his crew."

Small jobs welcome

"We had an amazing experience with Lapuc Renovations! From start to finish, they were professional, detail-oriented, and truly dedicated to delivering high-quality work. The team was punctual, respectful, and took the time to ensure we were happy with the work. The drywall and paint job was fantastic and they were also great with prep and cleanup, leaving everything spotless when they were done. If you’re looking for skilled painters who take pride in their work, I strongly recommend Lapuc Renovations. We will definitely be using them again for future projects! Sue & Ben"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

Yes, you can paint a chain-link fence, but you don’t want to use spray paint. With the spray method, you’ll be losing a majority of your product to the air, given the size of the gaps in chain-link fences. Instead, use a paintbrush for your fence posts and a paint roller for the wire.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.
