"Windy day, leaves were still falling from two of the many trees. The Halligan lawn crew made multiple passes to pick up all fallen and falling leaves. Great job. Thorough and fast."

"I hired Daniel to trim the shrubs around my house. His price was very competitive, and he could do the work within a week, so I hired him. He did the work but did not remove all of the clippings, and evidently, he used his mower to remove some of the clippings, which resulted in several bald spots in my yard. He offered to come seed the spots and remove the clippings, but...he has gone silent now that I have paid him. I GET IT!!! Trust is earned!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Removing leaves prevents mold growth and ensures grass gets sunlight and air circulation.

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

Yes, if your home is poorly maintained and has weeds and overgrowth, it can affect your home appraisal and lower the value. Home buyers want to see a well-kept home, and if yours lacks curb appeal whether inundated by weeds or not, you could be neglecting the potential for it to reach its full value.

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.

Skunks like to forage for grubs in the soil, like worms and insects, but they are also tempted by trash and pet food bowls, so keeping these items out of sight may help keep skunks away. Skunks also like to set up a den in dark places, such as a crawl space or outbuilding.
