"Caleb was thorough and professional. He knew his business and got the job done quickly. He kept the area clean and inspected our chimney outside as well. I finally found a fireplace service company that understands the value of a vent-free gas fireplace! We will be using Sleep Easy for all our service and repairs. I did not provide my address for privacy reasons."

"We needed help repairing an existing paver sidewalk/pathway that transversed from the front yard through to the back. It has a curved shape and 5 terraced steps built in. Over the years, the lower part especially had started to fall apart. Outlook Hardscape completely rebuilt the entire sidewalk. All pavers had to be removed and relaid. The lower half of the walkway was changed to decrease the slope and create more level areas between the steps. The base for the pavers was improved as well. They changed the design slightly to create more stability for the walkway. It was basically like starting over except you had to fix somebody else's mess.
They did a great job and even came back a year later to touch up an area of concern without charge. I would highly recommend this company.

"commination difficult with tech who showed up although friendly and professional. And I expected more for the $139 than a vacuum hooked up to one vent to suck out dust. Did ask if additional cleaning was wanted for an additional $50 a vent. which, in my case, could have cost up to $1,000. Tech did show me how to take old vents off properly instead of damaging my walls, which I appreciated. My vents were extremely filthy, so my expectations were probably too high."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, an outdoor fireplace should use fire bricks. Fire bricks are specially designed to withstand high levels of heat and thus won’t crack as easily as regular bricks when exposed to the intense heat inside a fireplace.

This will depend on the size of the pellet stove and how much of the house you’re heating, i.e. just one room or the entire house. Many pellet stoves use anywhere from 80 to 345 watts of electricity per hour. In terms of the pellets, a 40-pound bag can cost $5 to $9. A bag of pellets will burn for about 24 hours.

Yes, removing a chimney is a difficult and major undertaking. Chimneys often provide structural support to a home, so if it's a load-bearing structure, you'll need to take extra precautions to maintain your home's integrity. A project of this complexity typically requires a structural engineer, a masonry contractor, and a demolition crew. The removal process may involve taking the chimney out brick by brick from inside the walls. The cost for chimney removal can range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the job's complexity. Due to the difficulty and cost, some homeowners opt to remove the fireplace and seal the chimney at the top and bottom, sometimes also removing the visible exterior portion at the roofline.

If your gas fireplace is vented through a chimney, a chimney cap is highly recommended. While not all gas fireplaces require a traditional chimney, for those that use one, a cap provides several key benefits. It prevents rain, debris, and animals from entering the chimney, which can cause blockages or damage. A cap also helps prevent downdrafts that could push harmful gases like carbon monoxide back into your home. When installing a cap, ensure it is appropriate for a gas fireplace and does not restrict proper ventilation.

Sap, despite its stickiness, is primarily made of water and is responsible for wood being “green” when it’s first cut. Green wood doesn’t burn very easily and will snap and crackle a lot, not ideal for a fire pit or fireplace. That’s why it’s best to let fresh, sap-filled wood season or dry out for at least a season before you start burning.
