"David called to let me know he was on his way. After evaluating the situation, he discussed my options and showed me the pricing for each. After clearing the blockage, he showed me what he found. Since this is an old house with old pipes, he also had me check the basement room near the window well for any water - just in case. (Fortunately it was dry). I appreciated that he wore a mask and disinfected the tablet before handing it to me to sign. Overall a very positive experience."

"I want to thank Hosack Plumbing, and Kent, for getting my situation cleaned up quickly and professionally. My water heater install is perfect, my water pressure spot on thanks to the new PRV, and is ready for inspection. Kent was thorough, professional, and very clean. He noticed my mask when I answered the door and wore a kn95 mask the whole time. The life coaching advice was an added bonus. Kent's work was great and I'm very pleased with the service provided."

"This is a good company to deal with. James, the owner, was out within one hour to diagnose our problem. The next morning the technicians, Brian and Josh were out to take care of our drain issues. Brian made a point of showing me the camera footage of the main drain. The did a great job on the main and two other drains. They also cleaned up very well when they were done. Brian also noticed an issue with our bathtub stopper and fixed it without an extra charge. The pricing was transparent. They have a nice email notice system and called when they were on the way. The three men I worked with were all very professional and easy to deal with. I would not hesitate to use them again. Phil Lykens"

"Easy to work with, courteous and cleaned up after the job was complete. Completed almost a year ago and no more water leaks and no farther inward movement of our walls. Quality work and no further problems at that end of the basement. Having water seepage at the other end and will plan to hire again to address our new problem. Best price of the four estimated I received."

"The basement is unfinished so there weren't any obstacles (finished walls, etc.) to getting the job done. Regardless, the process of putting in drain tile and sump pumps is messy at best. Atlas was able to minimize the mess as much as could be hoped for, and cleaned up exceptionally well when they were done. The job took a six man crew two days to complete. All six guys were terrific. The foreman (I am so sorry I cannot remember his name) was fantastic, keeping things moving and keeping us informed about the process every step of the way. The foundation is cinder block, and the crew drilled holes in every block that lays on the footings. That way any water that manages to get into the hollows of the cinder blocks can find its way into the drain tile. The crew ran the sump pump discharge lines underground and well away from the house. In fact, in the front of the house, they extended a downspout to go underground and tie into a four inch PVC pipe into which the sump pump discharges, and then extended that even further from the house. The thinking there was to help insure water wouldn't run across the sidewalk that goes from the driveway to the front porch. An excellent recommendation. In summary, Atlas did a super job installing the drain tile and sump pumps. They cleaned up extremely well. The concrete patching in the basement floor is super smooth. They made thoughtful and practical recommendations that yielded a much better finished product. We highly recommend these folks."

"The company sent out a salesman to try and sell an interior drain tile and sump pump. I told him I wanted ideas and a plan for keeping my basement waterproof.  The company representative failed to do a proper investigation to try and find out a solution.  In this case I had water coming into the basement from my chimney but he didn't even shine his flashlight up the chimney to see the problem.  Instead he recommending drain tile across the ENTIRE perimeter of my basement even though I told him 2/3 of it had never seen water.

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

Some experts estimate that descaling your cast iron pipes can extend their lifetime by upwards of 50 years, although there’s not a lot of research to prove it. But we do know that without proper maintenance, cast iron pipes can quickly rust—leading to more expensive issues like burst pipes or main line clogs.

To clean gunk out of a sink drain, pour in a half cup of baking soda, then 1 cup of white vinegar. The two will react chemically; let them fizz for 15 minutes, then rinse with boiling water. Repeat these steps if necessary for particularly dirty sink drains, and consider a drain snake if there are clogs.

First, find the cleanout pipe in your yard. Unscrew the cap—you may need a wrench to do so. Then, get a drain snake. You can use a non-motorized one, but a motorized snake will make the job a little easier. Feed the snake through the pipe until it reaches the clog. Spin the snake continuously, but don’t try to feed it through the pipe anymore. Keep spinning until you feel it break the clog apart.

Air gaps get clogged by a few different means. Over time, food and grime can collect in the air gap, leading to a blockage. Mineral deposits from hard water are a common problem. Mineral buildup creates a film in the air gap and tubing, which can cause flow issues, as well as attract debris. Homeowners with hard water may want to remove mineral deposits regularly to keep the air gap clean and clear.
