"When my wife and I were selling our house, I asked our realtor if he knew of a reputable and dependable moving service. He recommended Always Helpful Movers saying that they had moved him and several clients of his. All of them had good reports and our realtor added that John the owner of the moving company was also a missionary traveling around the world to share the good new of Jesus Christ and praying for the sick. I called John and found him very congenial and price competitive. We had a couple of special issues. We were moving from a large house and large shop into a small house and multiple storage units all at different locations. He was very accommodating in this and when we forgot a couple of things for the house his men were very helpful to retrieve them from the storage. In fact, we rented ample storage to ensure there was room for everything but his men were efficient in storing so we were able to save money by releasing the excess space. The other special issue in our transition was a baby grand piano, my wifeâ s baby. We had already contacted a piano mover for the job but John explained that he had move numerous pianos and it was really no problem, we did not need the extra expense of a special mover. I was thinking yes there are many upright pianos and over the years I too have moved and helped friends move pianos. However, I have seen the results of armatures attempting to move a baby grand. If such a piano is dropped, it can never be fully restored and my wife is very fond of this piano and its special quality (to our ears anyway). John did move it. He did know exactly what he was doing and even my wife said he treated it like his own baby. John and his men were also attentive to details. What they took apart, tables, beds, etc., they put back together. All the parts screws, etc. were wrapped together and nothing was lost, broken or scratched. There were even a few things we overlooked on the walls that they willingly removed for us. All of the men were congenial and Always Helpful Movers. It was a great experience."

"Went very well.  Was a little delayed at beginning, but they called to let me know.  They take very good care of all furniture, breakables etc.  They wrap furniture with moving blankets and/or bubble wrap to protect each piece. This is the 3rd time I have used Josh & Greg.  Would definitely use them again.

"Anthony, Albert and Njah Leslie were the team of movers assigned to us. They were prompt on arrival and presented friendly and positive attitudes. They took pride in their job and were very carful, many of the items were heavy, large and awkward to move. They worked efficiently as a team and finished the job in less time than expected. We were very pleased with this team of gentlemen and would most certainly request them again for any future moves."

Kainon's crew was great! They were a very hard-working bunch of guys and got the job done on a very hot and long day. About 10 minutes prior to their scheduled arrival time (they plan for an hour window for arrival), they called to let us know that they had a flat tire and would be a little late starting, which I appreciated knowing. We had "staged" the house for selling, so it was filled with all of our furniture and the contents of the basement and garage. We had a LOT of stuff and was glad that they showed up with 2 trucks. The move progressed at an acceptable rate, they took much-deserved breaks and they got the job done in about 6.5 hours. The only bad thing was that they got stuck in traffic on the way east out to Blue Springs, so we were waiting over and hour at the new house for them to arrive after they took a dinner break. The price came in below the estimate which was a nice surprise. We would definitely hire them again and next time would have them move the piano as well instead of hiring a piano mover who was terrible! (His name was Jamie Deets).

"The two movers could not have been more polite and helpful.  There were some communication issues with the fact that we had told the company we had a piano and they showed up without equipment to move it.  They were also sent without any floor coverings that we had double checked inquiring about  because we had just had our floors redone.  That being said, they were SO careful and our floors were not harmed in any way during the move.  The reason they were scored low on punctuality is that we had to wait almost 2 hours for the piano moving supplies to arrive so there was a lot of waiting around and the job took a lot longer than we had planned for.   I would definitely use them again because they were very apologetic and made things right when they did arrive. They know how to move and are good at what they do.  I got the feeling this was atypical for them and they were embarrassed that everything hadn't gone as smoothly as usual.  This was the second moving company we had used in the past few months and they were hands down the better of the two.

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

Around half of Americans hire professional movers, while the other half DIY their moves.

When loading a moving truck, the general rule is to load the heaviest and largest items first to create a stable base at the front of the truck, which helps balance the weight. You can start with large furniture like sofas, beds, mattresses, and tables to form a solid foundation, or begin by placing your heaviest boxes against the truck's walls to create a base layer. After the base is set, continue loading other large items like appliances and square furniture. Lighter and smaller objects, including most of your boxes, should be loaded last. They can be packed into gaps, around, and on top of the heavier items to maximize space. Following this order makes unloading easier and helps prevent damage to your belongings.

It can be tempting to want to help your movers as they pack or transport your belongings, but in general, most movers prefer their customers to stay out of the way. Rest assured that your movers are confident in their skills and the process will likely go faster without your help. If you see something concerning, let your movers know right away so they can adjust or remedy the issue.

Professional movers use dedicated packing materials like specialty boxes for artwork, TVs, clothes and other things that need to be moved with care. If professional movers are packing for you, they use foam, bubble wrap, and other cushioning for the journey. You can ask questions about how movers will handle specific items when you are getting a price estimate.

While it's not expected, tipping junk haulers is a kind gesture when the team goes above and beyond for piano disposal. Lugging and breaking down a piano requires specialized equipment, maneuvering, and a lot of strength. When your junk haulers take particularly good care of your home during the process, consider tipping between 10% and 20% of the total bill to split among the team or $10 to $20 per hauler.
