"I highly recommend Joshua's Hardwood Flooring. They were very professional, hard-working and reliable. I felt completely comfortable having them in my home working. The price was fair especially considering the quality of work and floor I received. Five stars all the way!"

"Julio was extremely reliable and was a good communicator. He did what he said he would do for us, and the floor looks great. We'd use him again. He ripped out and carted off carpeting and replaced it with laminate. Big improvement!"

"Mark Cooney had came out and gave me a quote. I had just had another company come out to give me a quote which was more than double what Mark quoted me. When he was done the work looked so good that I asked him about doing the formal dining room because I hadn't done that. He came the next week and finished that for me too. I had a friend who was visiting and she came and looked at them and said the floors were beautiful and they are. I keep finding myself just looking at them. He was very thorough and explained to me what he was going to do. He explained to me I was going to have to spend a night or two at a hotel because the fumes were going to be pretty bad and I wasn't going to be able to come downstairs, so that was fine. He's just really, really, thoughtful. He sanded a part on the floor and showed me. I told him the kind of look that I was going for so he brought different things to show me what they would look like. He cleaned up after himself, put the furniture back, and I just appreciated it. The other place that I got a quote from were going to charge me for everything. They were really trying to nickel and dime me. They were going to charge me to move every piece of furniture and then charge me to put every piece back. The flooring was not that expensive, but when they added on all these other things. They asked if I was going to move the furniture or if I wanted them to do it and I said I would like them to do it. They then said okay, but there's a charge for that, so needless to say I didn't go with them. Mark is personable and extremely knowledgeable even though he's relatively young. He's been doing this for a long time, like 10 or 11 years. He started as a teenager and he's now on his own. He's very professional and when he says he's coming he comes. He calls if something is holding him up. The night that I ended up staying at the hotel he stayed until 1:30 in the morning finishing up the job so he could be on time. He told me in the course of the next couple of weeks if I see something that I don't like to give him a call to let him know so he'll come back to make it right. You don't hear that a lot and especially from somebody that young."

"I HIGHLY recommend Travis and his group. We have been stuck in a remodel nightmare, and came upon Travis from Angies list. Travis came right out to give us an estimate, and began work almost immediately. The entire transaction was flawless! We will definitely be having Travis back to refinish the upstairs in the very near future. Floors look amazing!!!!!!!!"

"Dan does what he says he will do and is always on time. His work is of the highest quality. I have had him work on my travertine floors 3 times over the last 5 yeas and each time the floor looks like new. I am so pleased with his work! I strongly recommend him and his crew! Great professional."

Floor Sanding questions, answered by experts

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.

Permit requirements to clear land vary by municipality, so whether or not you need permits depends on where you live and what you’re removing from the land. Some building departments will require permits for any underground work or excavation, meaning grinding down tree stumps on your property would require permits. Others mandate individual permits for each tree you remove. You can contact your local building department or a land-clearing specialist near you to see if permits are necessary for your job.

Several government-backed lending programs can help first-time home buyers purchase a home with little money down. FHA, USDA, and VA loans are options for qualifying borrowers, though many conventional mortgage lenders will lower down payment rates to as low as 3 percent.

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

Land survey reports have a boatload of information relevant to several scenarios. Here are the types of information contained with a survey, though it depends on your chosen type of land survey. Exact boundaries and dimensions of a given property General topography, including both natural and artificial landmarks Location of utility fixtures, like water mains Confirmation of any easements or encroachments on a piece of property Assessment of land elevation to buy flood insurance Updated information to add to a pre-existing property map
