"Very prompt and priced competitively to the major egress window installer in the Kansas City area. They provided a fair and prompt quote, showed up when they said they would and finished the job on time. They also come back a week after the install to add dirt around the egress window outlet after it has settled. I've recommended them and would hire them again."

First off, the salesman Russell was great.  Very knowledgeable and informed on all aspects of what he was doing.  I explained his was the first of three bids I was planning to get and he didn't get pushy.  He did still try to close the sale on our first meeting but that's his job.  He was also easy to contact and prompt to return calls.  After talking to him for a while you start to wonder why in the world is this guy selling windows?! (Not knocking window salesmen)  An interesting guy and a big part of the reason I chose Window World.

Next, the windows.  I'm not a home improvement type person, but they seem to me to be very good quality for the price and are a huge improvement over the old 1970's era wooden single pane windows I had.  I could immediately tell a huge difference in how they keep the wind and cold out.  Several of my friends in the construction industry were very impressed with the build and quality when I showed them.  Time will tell further, but based on what I see, and lots of research, they are a huge step above basic builder grade quality.

Last, the installation.  The windows arrived ahead of plan and installation was scheduled quick and easy.  They guys called when they were on the way and arrived on time.  Overall everything went well.  I did ask them to re caulk one of the windows as the bead was pretty ugly and got dirt in it.  They took care of it right away.  I later noticed one of the screens had a tear in it and they came back promptly and took care of it.  Based on my experience, I expect to get good service in the future if needed.

A few small problems.  One of the installers was standing on my front porch smoking.  I believe you should ask the customer first if that's OK.  I did politely ask him not to smoke.  I guess I should have also asked him not to leave cigarette butts in my driveway. When they took the windows off the truck, a bunch of broken glass fell off and was left on my driveway.  Per their paperwork, a normal amount of post construction clean up is the customer's responsibility but broken glass covering the width of my driveway is beyond normal post construction clean up.   I didn't notice that until a few hours later so I just cleaned it up myself but I did contact the project manager and let him know about those issues.  Another thing, as noted on their paperwork, they are not responsible for damage to shrubs or landscaping.   I pointed out a particular shrub to the installer and they said no problem, they could work around it, but it was stepped on and destroyed.

As I stated though, I consider these to be small problems and will be purchasing more windows from Window World in the future and would recommend them.

Windows questions, answered by experts

Window maintenance in Columbia involves cleaning glass and tracks twice a year to remove pollen and dust common in the region. Inspect seals and caulking each spring and fall, as temperature swings can cause gaps. Wood frames need yearly sealing to prevent moisture damage from humidity. In autumn, install storm windows, and in winter, watch for condensation or frost buildup to maintain energy efficiency and window longevity.

Helpful?

Homes in Columbia built before 1980, or those with single-pane windows, are prime candidates for window upgrades. Signs like drafty rooms, condensation between panes, or frames that stick often indicate the need for window service projects. Energy bills that spike in summer or winter, or visible rot on wood frames, also suggest it’s time for an update—especially in older ranch or historic homes common in Columbia.

Helpful?

Before starting a window service project in Columbia, confirm if your neighborhood or historic district has specific requirements. Vet contractors by checking reviews and insurance, and schedule your project several weeks in advance, especially during busy seasons. Get accurate measurements, order materials early, and clear access to work areas. Gathering multiple quotes and budgeting for unexpected repairs will help your window project proceed smoothly and efficiently.

Helpful?

In Columbia, you’ll find full-service window companies handling installation, repair, and cleanup, as well as glass specialists who focus on custom or energy-efficient panes. General contractors often include window replacement as part of larger renovations. Window repair experts are especially helpful for restoring historic homes, addressing issues like rotting frames or stuck sashes. Each contractor type offers unique expertise for your specific window service project.

Helpful?

In Columbia, homeowners should consider the area’s humid summers, icy winters, and frequent thunderstorms, which can strain window seals and frames. Choose windows with strong moisture resistance and storm protection. Check for any historic district restrictions or neighborhood guidelines. Scheduling window service projects in spring or early fall helps avoid weather delays, and planning ahead during peak construction months ensures better contractor availability.
