"I own a duplex up a few miles from where we live here. They put windows on both sides. The first side was kind of tricky because there are steps going down and they had to maneuver around the steps. They did great, they did a very good job. So the next time, when they came out to do the other side, I asked for the same guys and they told me they would send them, they didn't, they sent somebody else, but the other guys were just as good."

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Be cautious if a siding contractor in Columbia offers vague estimates, omits details about the type of siding materials, or pressures you to decide quickly. Lack of proof of insurance or a verifiable local address is a warning sign. Reliable professionals should provide clear timelines, explain warranties, and offer references from recent home exterior projects in the area. Avoid contractors who require full payment before any work begins.

Helpful?

Your Columbia home is likely ready for new siding if you notice cracked, warped, or loose panels, persistent drafts, or rising energy bills. Homes over 15 years old or those with visible mold or mildew on exterior walls often benefit from updated siding. Ensure your home’s structure is stable and you’re not planning major exterior renovations soon to maximize the impact of your siding investment.

Helpful?

When planning siding projects in Columbia, consider the area’s fluctuating temperatures, high humidity, and risk of hail or wind storms. Opt for durable materials like fiber cement or insulated vinyl siding that resist moisture and impact. Check if your neighborhood falls within a historic district, as this may affect design choices. Always review local permit requirements and coordinate with your homeowners association for approval before starting your home exterior upgrade.

Helpful?

In Columbia, most siding projects take between four and eight weeks from initial planning to final inspection, depending on the size and complexity. Projects involving specialty materials like fiber cement or homes in historic districts may require extra time for approvals. Scheduling during late spring or early fall can help avoid peak storm season and improve contractor availability, ensuring a smoother installation process for your home exterior.

Helpful?

In Columbia, hidden costs during siding projects often arise from discovering water damage, pest infestations, or outdated insulation behind old panels. Homeowners may also face fees for permit applications or mandatory inspections. If your property has mature landscaping, you might need to budget for temporary removal or restoration. Historic homes sometimes require additional review steps, which can extend timelines and add to overall project complexity.
