"Kirkwood Plumbing was very responsive, sending a highly qualified technician within 24-hours. He did an incredible job replacing old cast stacks and vents to our 2nd floor bath. The further comment that I would make is they are not cheap. I'm still trying to reconcile their cost for a 7-8 hour job, but the results couldn't be better."

"I had two plumbers visit my home to look at my waterheater and admit it was leaking and under warranty but offered no solutions. I looked on line for alternatives and reviewed tankless heaters;I requested a quote, and Steve Hosack responded within seconds! He made himself available faster than anyone else and had a new unit installed the next day. More importantly, he stopped the leak - actually flow of water immediately with a simple solution for which he expected nothing, saving me many dollars in wasted water. The other two "master plumbers" left the flow of water running. I purchased the tankless heater, as well as a new hot water tap, and had several minor repairs made by Steve and his crew. All work was professionally done. His crew was polite and efficient. I cannot recommend Hosack Plumbing and Excavation more highly!"

"I called to have someone look at my basement drain backing up. The first person quickly diagnosed the issue but didn’t have the camera needed to look at the line. This was a bit annoying since I was very clear in describing the problem before he came out. However, another guy came out first thing in the morning and did a great job diagnosing the issue and took the time to show me and explain his assessment, along with options. They charge $65 to come out for diagnosis. My total for over an hour of camera work on two lines from inside the house and diagnosing the issue was $326. They were both professional, punctual, and didn’t waste time. The second person was honest in telling me not to try something that I think other plumbers would have charged for. John M was a pro and I appreciated his service. I’d use them again."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need to use plumber’s putty to install a sink drain. Other options are available, such as silicone putty or silicone caulk. Plumber’s putty is the traditional method and it’s easier to work with and easier to remove. It doesn’t need to dry before using. Silicone putty should dry before you use the drain.

Yes, you should always call a plumber to replace a pipe that you fixed with a temporary solution. Some temporary pipe leak solutions like pipe leak clamps can last for years and prevent further damage to your home, but eventually, they will fail, at which point you could be looking at more significant water damage and mold growth. Even if you suspect that your temporary solution will last a long time, always call a plumber for a permanent fix. Temporary solutions should be for minimizing damage and avoiding added charges for emergency plumbing services.

Yes, professional installations typically include safe gas and plumbing connections.

While flooding is always cause for alarm, certain situations are considered more urgent than others. If there is water pooling anywhere in your basement, it’s time to call a local emergency plumber ASAP. Standing water in your basement could be from a plumbing leak or from cracks in your foundation—either situation can go from minor to major very quickly. On average, the cost to hire an emergency plumber ranges from $100 and $500, depending on the scope of the repair and when you call them—calling an emergency plumber on the weekend or on a holiday will cause the rate to jump.

The hot and cold water hookups are the two pipes at the back of the washing machine. In many homes, independent taps turn on or off and are usually located directly behind the washing machine. If they aren’t there, try looking inside a cupboard or closet. If you plan on unhooking either pipe, make sure the water is shut completely off and have towels nearby, as there’s still water stored in the pipes.
