I cannot recommend Kirkwood Plumbing/Mr. Rooter anymore after my experience. I called because the copper pipe on my water heater (I believe the temperature and pressure valve) would leak when we took a shower. The plumber they sent was very nice and told me that he discovered the issue was a failed PRV. He said that when multiple faucets ran at the same time, the pressure was reduced and that meant the PRV failed. I even asked if this would fix the leaking copper pipe on the water heater and he said yes. He quoted me $785 to replace and although that seemed a bit high, I agreed. He left and got the part, came back and replaced it. Well, when he was done with that replacement he said he “looked closer at the water heater” and actually my expansion tank had ALSO failed and was mostly water when it should be air. Only he just looked and discovered this after doing $800 of work??? And oh the pipe between the water tank and expansion tank had been leaking at some point but was not now. He recommended a new expansion tank and replacing that pipe section. He quoted me an additional almost $700 to do that job!!! And told me that the leaking from the water heater would not be fixed until he also did this. He said he thought the PRV had failed causing the expansion tank to fail and he would need to go out to get a new expansion tank too. He apologized for not realizing that sooner he said. This is completely unacceptable. At this point I’m essentially held hostage by your company to complete the job as the already $785 would not have fixed the leak as told. I told the plumber it’s disappointing because if I knew it was a much bigger issue I would have likely gotten other quotes, and in addition, I don’t feel like I could really trust him or the company at this point. I agreed to do the expansion tank for an additional $271 and would wait for the pipe to be fixed since it was not currently leaking and only showed signs of leaking in the past. I will never again use this company and will make sure to spread my experience. While doing some jobs you may discover additional issues, this wasn’t the case here. All he had to do was test the expansion tank (which is apparently a common failure for temperature and pressure valve issues) BEFORE starting the job and give me a quote for the actual fix. Not do an expensive job saying it will fix the issue and then saying that it wouldn’t fix it after. He even said it was his mistake. Again, he was very polite, but it is completely unacceptable to essentially hold your customers hostage halfway through a job saying the first fix wouldn’t even fix the problem, after doing it. I’ve since learned that the expansion tank should have immediately been tested for this issue and that it was rather backward to check the PRV first, as the expansion tank is often the culprit in these cases and that considering he said that it was mostly water rather than air, it would have been easy to diagnose. As for the PRV, with the water off it maintained 60psi and dropped 10-20 points when two faucets were on, which I have since learned may also be normal operation and not needing replaced. I’m not sure if this is how all customers are treated or just women customers. My advice is do not use this company. They respond quickly but will gouge you and not provide upfront pricing. He could have saved himself two trips out (making this take much longer) as well as given me upfront pricing had he just “looked at the water heater closer” the first time- you know the apparatus I called them out for in the first place. Offering “upfront pricing” is clearly not something they do. I now feel like I paid $785 for a service I did not need when I really just needed a new expansion tank and could have paid for that/fixed that without replacing the PRV and checked to see if that fixed the problem. I even told him I did not have pressure issues. Beware for unneeded services at a high cost and not adequately diagnosing the problem or even investigating until AFTER finishing unnecessary work.

Kirkwood Plumbing was very responsive, sending a highly qualified technician within 24-hours. He did an incredible job replacing old cast stacks and vents to our 2nd floor bath. The further comment that I would make is they are not cheap. I'm still trying to reconcile their cost for a 7-8 hour job, but the results couldn't be better.

They couldn't give me a price over the phone (even though it's a standard repair), they will only give you a price by coming to your home. If you don't use their service, they charge a trip charge of $59. As it turns out, their "book price" for a PRV is beyond ridiculous at nearly $800. The parts run $125ish at RETAIL (Home Depot), and it can't take more than 2 hours TOPS to replace it (less than an hour based on multiple Youtube videos), so MAYBE $450 could be considered “reasonable”. I’m VERY unhappy that their prices are so exorbitant, and I even had to pay for the privilege of having somebody come all of the way here to tell me the “book price”, when they could have given me that price over the phone and kept us both from wasting time and $. It’s troubling to have to pay a trip charge just to get a ridiculously overpriced bid. Another vendor gave me a fixed price, OVER THE PHONE, of $400. No trip charge, no funny games. I just sent the technician home. I’m usually not very vocal, but this is egregious. Obviously, I would NOT recommend this company.

I was told before they began work that my amount was $358.00 and that is what I paid. I was sent a video of the line and a description of the problem to forward to St Louis County. Also, I needed to contact St Louis County to get a lateral line repair and was told to go online and fill out the application and submit to St. Louis County with the above video. St Louis County responded saying I needed the plumbers signature on the application pages. I contacted Kirkwood Plumbing / Mr Rooter and they said I would have to pay another $166.00 for the the signature pages on the application. Oh, and that the camera run through the drain was not charged properly. Initially they they wanted to charge me another $330. but gave me the generous discount to only $166. So, they held me hostage for the signatures required by St Louis County. I had no choice but to pay the ransom. So, the quoted price before they began work was meaningless. Its unfortunate because the technician they sent out was very good and friendly. If this was a mistake it is one they should have eaten. I won't use them again. I won't use them again.

They were on time, they had a good price and I was satisfied with the job that they did. I'm going to use them again.

Did exactly what I asked. Called and asked to come a little early, and completed the job very quickly. Clean, professional, and on time.

Work was speedy with no mess left behind.

Kirkwood Plumbing is represented by very capable plumbers, does its work without surprises, and has a very strong commitment to customer satisfaction. For those reasons I give it an A rating. Below is the story. I needed to have the upper stack of the toilet replaced and have a new toilet installed. Of the 3 companies I called, only Kirkwood Plumbing sent a master plumber, a plus. Paul was very observant and identified the least intrusive manner I was chip to complete the tasks, which in an old home, was not simple. Although not the least expensive bid, I accepted it based on the confidence Paul inspired. That was a very good decision. Greg arrived on time at the appointment date and immediately went to work. He is a capable plumber who worked very hard and efficiently, a plus. He had a great manner with his assistant and it was a pleasure to observe them working together. Greg was determined to leave me with running water and a functional toilet by the time he had to leave, and that was much appreciated. To that end, however, he did not take the time to go back to get the correct saw to cut through the cabinet and wall and thus created sufficient dust particles to saturate the air. Nor did he go back to get the correct shut off valve so he didn't install one. Those were negatives. After he left, I noticed that I could no longer open the faucets in the bathroom so I got in touch with Kirkwood plumbing. They immediately rescheduled a return visit, a positive. Greg attended to the issues that remained but couldn't repair the faucet problem. Although he was convinced that he did not cause this problem, he called Jason in to take over, another plus. Jason is a very thoughtful, methodical plumber who calmly and efficiently repaired the problem. I don't know if he thought this issue was a separate or related problem but he refused any additional payment that I offered, another plus.

Semantic misunderstanding has been resolved.

On February 10th, 2015 I called Kirkwood Plumbing to see if they could put in a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal.  Because they do not have a showroom, they suggested a plumbing supplier.  I followed their suggestion and after purchasing my items I called Kirkwood Plumbing back to schedule an appointment.  Two days later Jim, a 5th generation plumber, showed up promptly at my door. He was personality plus!  He was very friendly and put my mind at ease about the project.  I had an unorthodox configuration under my sink, but Jim was not deterred.  He worked quickly, efficiently and neatly.   Jim is not just a plumber, he is an artist.  He replaced old valves and made underneath the sink look new again.  He checked everything to make sure it worked, including the dishwasher.  He also explained the usage and care of our new items.  I've used Kirkwood Plumbing several times and would highly recommend them.  The office personnel is very efficient.

Great! We were concerned about the broken piece, but the company went above and beyond in correcting it and the service was excellent. The tech that came out was friendly, professional, and explained everything he was doing. He even diagnosed two other problems with easy solutions in different parts of the house as he was cleaning up! This company deserves to be recommended for a service award! I have already given their info to a friend who is remodeling a bathroom and needs plumbing work.

Called today for a non-emergency service (no water leaks at the moment).  I scheduled an appointment for the following week.  A couple hours later they called and said they could come today.  Jason arrived a few minutes later.  He was very friendly and professional.  He reviewed the damage from the leak (we had turned off the water).  He was able to quickly determine the likely cause.  After making the fix he double checked to ensure the problem was fixed.  I really appreciated his expertise and ability to ensure the fix worked.  I also appreciated his friendly demeanor.
I have used Kirkwood Plumbing before and they will be the first for me to call.

I scheduled a 2-4 pm appointment earlier this week for Kirkwood Plumbing to come out and fix a toilet. I called to verify this appointment earlier today and was informed they "should be able to come" for the service. At 355 today, I received a call that a plumber could not make it that they could "try again Monday after 3." I informed her that I had to take off work for this appointment and this very inconvenient. Although we've had a good experience with them in the past, this experience is very annoying. Is this normal for plumbing companies to not make 'appointments.'? Update: a plumber came on Monday afternoon and promptly and professionally fixed the problem.

It was fantastic experience. They came when they said they would be out to my home. Let me check in on them and explain to me what they are doing. They are very responsive and prompt. They wear booties so they don't track dirt through the house. They are very professional and clean up when they are finished. Everything works as it should when they are finished.

They weren't much higher than the lower bid.  They came out immediately to help us.  They other company couldn't do the work for several weeks.  Once we selected them after our three bids, they performed the job.  They did excellent work.

Had a large water spot appear on my ceiling. I called Kirkwood plumbing. They had someone out to the house in less than 2 hours. Mike found the problem quickly. As it was something I could fix, he just charged the service call. We also discussed further plumbing work we need done. He was very helpful and informative as to the future work as well as polite and professional about the issue he came to fix. Very pleased.

The plumber that was replacing the o rings on the kitchen faucet didn't make sure that the faucet turned off when the sprayer was on. They did a good job with the other two items.

The owner came out and gave the bid. The thing that impressed me is that do not have a payment plan, I spoke to the owner about that and he said to pay a 1/4th down and then finish the rest over the next 3 mos. His son came out and did the work and they cleaned up well after themselves. They were all very nice throughout the company, from the office staff to the gentlemen that came out and I was very pleased with them.

I chose this company because my father recommended them. They took the time to explain the reasons that they used the materials that they did. They did a good job and kept the costs to a minimum.
