"Mason came in a very timely manner to take a look at my walnut tree in my back yard. He knew I didn't want to lose the tree but needed it cleaned up because it was in bad shape. He made it look absolutely beautiful and it's healthier than I've ever seen it. He also cleaned up everything that fell to the ground like he was never there! I'll definitely be calling him again for future tree work. I would recommend highly Tri state forestry !"

"The service done involved shrubbery and ornamental tree trimming and a clean up of landscaping gone amuck. I did not have any deadline nor did I know exactly what I needed, but I needed help to get some order back to our landscaping. Greg was courteous and knowledgeable explaining not only what he could do but what the various plants/shrubbery/trees needed. He had some nasty weather to work through and the job was finished just before company and Thanksgiving. The work he did made a very noticeable improvement with the landscaping. I was very pleased with the work done and very pleased that Greg was professional and courteous in his approach to this job. I would recommend this service to others in a heartbeat. While there is a lot of debate about whether boiling water is strong enough to kill tree roots, it is not best to remove the roots from large, old trees. You may be able to weaken young roots enough to remove them manually, but boiling water will likely not do the trick for large root systems.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.

There are two types of arborists: certified and consulting. A certified arborist is licensed and equipped to provide tree pruning, planting, fertilizing, monitoring, transplanting, treatment, and removal services. A consulting arborist specializes in tree appraisals, diagnosing problems and recommending treatments for illnesses. However, they will not provide these services themselves. Most consulting arborists are certified arborists who can refer you to a tree service that can administer the correct treatments.

It's easy to misidentify trees that appear to be maple trees due to similarities in leaf shapes. Sweetgum, sycamore, and yellow poplar all have leaf shapes and appearances similar to maples. The fact that around a dozen maple tree varieties exist, only about half of which are considered common, makes misidentification an often typical occurrence.  

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size. 

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.
