"Alex arrived promptly in the morning and performed the annual maintenance on our RO unit. He explained each step in the process clearly and I was impressed with his professionalism; even helping me schedule a bathroom sink replacement with Aquarius. I HIGHLY recommend Aquarius for all of your plumbing needs."

"Wow, just absolutely wow! We purchased a home in West Fargo, ND. in February 2022, from a less than honest individual, who had covered up and failed to disclose the home had basement water/foundation issues. After interviewing several companies, we chose Innovative Basement Authority (IBA) to set things right. Their product is state of the art and well worth the investment. The project began August 28 and was completed on schedule, as promised. The Foreman (Jacob D.) and crew (Leonard S., Mike B., Zach B., and Brandon C.) were a consummate group of professionals. They were conscientious, knowledgeable, friendly and above all courteous. We highly recommend IBA, their products/services and most especially the crew mentioned above."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, shower water goes into the septic tank. Shower water is a type of greywater, and in fact, all water used in a home with a septic system—including water from sinks, toilets, the dishwasher, and the washing machine—drains into the tank. When shower water enters the tank, debris like soap and hair travels with it. The solid debris sinks to the bottom to become sludge, while soap residue joins the scum layer at the top. The remaining water is treated in the tank before moving to the drain field for further treatment and dispersal. It is important to avoid putting oil or harsh chemicals down any drain, as they can cause clogs or disrupt the beneficial bacteria required for proper wastewater management in the septic system.

In the best-case scenario, the pipe size is written on the side of the pipe. You’ll often find this with different types of plastic piping like PVC, PEX, or CPVC. For other types of pipes, you’ll have to measure. You can measure the outside circumference with a soft tape measure, then divide your measurement by pi. From there, you’ll have to use a conversion chart to get the nominal pipe size (the size you’d buy in the store).

Yes, you can fix pipe threads. In fact, the process is the same as cutting new ones. You’ll need to use a pipe threader tool with the proper size die head for the pipe. Turning the threader over the damaged threads will clean up any damaged or worn-out threads in the pipe. If the pipe threads are too damaged, this process may not work, and you’ll need to replace the pipe.

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

Most jurisdictions legally require a backflow preventer on your drip irrigation system. Even if you live in a place with less strict laws, installing one is a great idea. If you’re planning to use fertilizers or other chemical additives in your garden, a backflow preventer helps ensure those substances stay outside of your home’s water supply. Depending on the complexity of your irrigation system, you may be able to install one for under $100.
