"I contacted JB's Wood Floor Maintenance for refinishing some worn hardwood floors in my house. John got back to me quick and was very helpful laying out a rough estimate over the phone as well as scheduling an in home estimate. During the estimate John was very thorough and I was impressed about how forthwith he was about the different options for finishes, what the prices were, and the features of each type of finish. I got onto the schedule quickly and his crew showed up at the agreed upon time. During the sanding process there was no dust that was kicked up in the other living areas. There was also no dust left after the end of the project. I originally wanted to go with a lighter finish for my floors, and his crew applied two samples on the sanded floor so I could see the difference in person. The finished product looks amazing and there wasn't a spec of dust anywhere."

"If I could give Illi Hardwood Flooring 10 stars I would. We had existing red oak floors in our entryway, hallway, and kitchen. We wanted to extend it to our living room, dining room, and front sitting room and wanted to get rid of the dreaded yellow-orange color. Dave removed the carpet and did an amazing job feathering in the new floor to match the existing. He was extremely patient with the tough color choice decision and put lots of stain samples (even mixes of colors) down for us. Unfortunately, the color I thought we wanted just didn’t work when seeing it on the whole floor. Dave was very accommodating and worked with us on options. We decided to sand off the first color and go with something darker that better complemented the rest of our fixed elements. Dave had to rearrange his schedule to do this but said he just wanted us to be happy with end result. And we are- extremely happy! The floor is gorgeous. I HIGHLY recommend Dave for your flooring project. It’s just Dave and his son and his nephew- just 3 guys that do all the work and obviously take pride in their work. If you can get on his schedule- do it. You’ll be extremely happy with the end result."

"We had the floors done in 3 stages. After the amazing job on the first room and hallway, we were convinced Josh was our go-to guy. Now that all the floors are done I fully stand by that assertion. All the floors look amazing and the work was done quickly, professionally, and at a very reasonable price."

Floor Sanding FAQs, answered by experts

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

A boundary survey measures the boundary lines of the property, only the length of each property line and their locations. A land survey includes a more in-depth measurement of the property, including the heights and depths of the terrain measured by a topographic survey. A boundary survey is typically the most cost-effective method for marking and measuring property lines.

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.

A land survey includes the layout of a single property, including precise measurements and to-scale drawings of boundary lines, land improvements, and sometimes other features, like topography and drainage information. A plat map includes the layouts and boundary lines of several adjacent plots and basic structure measurements. Surveys are normally more valuable for homeowners and buyers, and plat maps are for governmental use.

Costs vary, but you can expect to spend between $1,000 and $4,000 to prepare land for a mobile home or before you build a house. You’ll need to clear enough land for the foundation, which may require leveling or grading, as well as removing trees, stumps, and plants. Don’t forget to plan for permits and fees and the installation of a gas line, water line, and sewer main.
