"We have had Chris do a number of smaller jobs for us over the last 5 years.  We have always been extremely pleased with the quality of his work.  The shoreline rock wall was by far the biggest project he has done for us.  We couldn't be more pleased with the final outcome!  In order to get the huge rocks to the shore, our yard was pretty torn up in the process, as was the sand beach. Not only does the rock wall look fantastic, but they put the yard and beach back in better shape than it was in the first place.  In addition, Chris is friendly as well as professional and really cares about our input and suggestions.  We will hire him again!

"Tom and his crew did a great job for us! We knew we needed landscaping but weren’t sure what to have done. Tom was very helpful in giving us options and helped us pick out a solution that both looked great and fit our budget. His crew was very professional and efficient in getting the job done. I highly recommend Sirek Landscaping Co. for any type of landscaping you need done and will hire Tom for any future work!"

"We have enjoyed the service of Twin City Landscape for 20 years! They built our patio and finished landscaping at two different homes during this time. Their design for patios and surrounding landscape has been original and creative. I highly recommend!"

"Quick response to our inquiry; punctual for the appointments and to begin the project. Very professional and engaging. Al offered several great ideas and matched our project cost to our budget. Plan was to cut down  all the weed growth on our cliff of a hill, spray everything with weed killer, cover the whole area with dormant seeded crown vetch which would germinate with the spring thaw and retake the hill with a solid ground cover. Unfortunately there is a crown vetch shortage so we are paused after phase 1. We will resume the project in the spring when hopefully the seed product is available.

"These guy's are fast, friendly, and really want to make sure they do it right for you. Bought my home and found out the whole front and back yard were trashed, ( winter buy). They came out, ripped out whole front and back yard, brought in a lot of black top soil leveled everything out and land scaped it, amazing work and fast for front and back yard took 4 days. 100% would hire again."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

You can fill the holes weeds leave behind with soil or sand to avoid unsightly spots or tripping hazards. If you remove weeds from a grassy area, fill the hole with soil and grass seed, and water regularly to promote grass growth.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

Monkey grass makes a beautiful, low-maintenance ground cover, particularly in shadier areas where other grasses don’t receive enough sunlight to grow. It’s also excellent for edging walkways, bordering flower beds, and accenting rock gardens. You can grow it as a container plant, as well, which is a perfect solution for those who love its foliage but want to contain the spread.
