Ohana Home & Design is an award winning residential design build firm serving the Twin Cities metro area. Ryan and Maggie Sewell are the owners of the company and the main point of contact for every client. From the first phone call, to the design phase, to the construction phase, to the completed renovation, we are there with you each step of the way to make every project enjoyable and successful. Ohana’s mission is to personally enhance the homes and lives of our clients while establishing a long term relationship built on trust. Our unique approach to working closely with our clients, our attention to detail, and our high standards of craftsmanship, have created countless dazzling and dynamic renovations.

"We hired Ohana Home and Design to do a total bathroom remodel for us. We wanted something that would be more functional as we age, and yet be stylish. Ryan and Maggie were amazing to work with! They removed the bathtub and made a walk in shower that is completely handicapped accessible. The shower has a gorgeous feature wall made of pebbles that gives that "spa" feeling, and added details, like a towel warmer, that really makes us feel pampered. We were out of town during the entire remodel as we only have one bathroom. I was concerned about returning to a mess to clean up, but I was very pleasantly surprised! The apartment was immaculate and I didn't even have to dust! I was absolutely blown away with the final results! Plus Maggie even added personal touches, like fresh orchids in our Asian inspired spa bathroom! I can't recommend them highly enough! In fact, the bathroom was so amazing, that we've decided to remodel our kitchen, and of course, we wouldn't consider hiring anyone else but Ohana! Thank you, Ryan and Maggie for giving us the bathroom of our dreams!"

OWNER OPERATED. CHARGES AN HOURLY RATE.

"Terrible. Eric Terry took my money; and he did not complete the work promised. The work that he did complete was subpar to mediocre. If you are considering this guy, move on. I'm out hundreds of dollars; and I had to hire someone else to do what Eric couldn't. Eric left putty filler on doors; he didn't clean the plumbing debris and filth under the sinks; he left caulking material and razor blades on the bathroom floor. Terrible and not trustworthy."

Outdoor Solutions Inc. started with a simple concept in 1997 to treat folks like we would like to be treated. Our family company has grown but we continue to provide the same great quality and customer service that our customers expect and deserve since 1997. We specialize in Composite and PVC decks as well as custom Cedar and Exotic hardwoods.Custom screen rooms and additions are always a fan favorite at Outdoor Solutions Inc. Winter work includes basement remodels and insurance claims. We are proud to recycle a huge part of our construction debris and offer recycled decking and aluminum products as well as all new materials for those who want that.. We offer a 2 year labor warranty. We look forward to working with you.

"We had our deck tear down and build done by Outdoor Solutions Inc. late summer of 2022. The finished product turned out much better (appearance and quality of construction) than we could have imagined. Jim and Christi Funk, the proprietors, were very easy and friendly to work with. Jim was very informative in helping select the material and describing the process. He was great at describing the qualities of TREX materials and the type of railing that would be best. His crew, with Josh as the lead, was very thorough and conscientious in doing the work. They definitely wanted to do the job the right way. Bottom line, we have a very beautiful deck at a very reasonable price. People comment on how well it fits our house. For area of improvements’: project start date could be better planned and material delivery could be better coordinated. Outside of this, we are very happy with work done on our deck."

We specialize in the organization of closets, offices, garages, mudrooms, pantries and so much more! Other products we offer include wall beds, office furniture and electric fireplaces.

"I am over the top elated with the work I had done in my garage and home from Twin Cities Closets! I had storage closets put in my garage and a wall board for hanging rakes, shovels, etc. I had a pantry made out of my coat closet in the kitchen and it’s so functional, and clean looking. I had cabinets put in my laundry room with a storage closet, beautiful! Dylan who did the installing was friendly, knowledgeable about his work, courteous, and had the best manners I’ve ever seen in a young man in a long time! He is welcome at my home anytime."

Design Showroom Locations: -2600 Johnson Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418 -362 Snelling Ave South, St. Paul, MN 55105 -5 W. Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN 55419 -4020 Minnehaha Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55406 Castle Building & Remodeling Inc is a professional design/build remodeling company that specializes in residential remodeling. Castle is a second-generation business with over 3,900 past clients. Our unique design studios in South Minneapolis, Highland Park, St. Paul and NE Minneapolis allow Castle’s interior designers to help you plan anything from handyman project, bath or kitchen remodel, all the way to the largest remodeling projects. Our detailed specifications and comprehensive planning process allows us to guarantee a favorable experience by ensuring there are no unforeseen costs and by providing a guaranteed completion date.

"We hired castle for our kitchen remodel project. We contracted with them to complete a partial project up until finished drywall. Our biggest regret of the project was hiring Castle. We were skeptical from the beginning because their prices are very high. (For example, we hired a concrete crew to do floor demolition for plumbing lines and paid 1/3 Castle’s bid. We hired our own plumber which saved us 2,500 compared to castle’s bid for the same job.) However, we had heard good things from different sources and have also had “you get what you pay for” experiences when going with the lowest bid so were optimistic that the high prices were indicative of high quality work. They also were available to start soon while other contractors we spoke with were months to a year booking out just for estimates (in hindsight, there is a reason for that!) From start to finish there were mistakes, from smaller mistakes ordering large quantities of unneeded supplies, to glaringly large framing and window installation problems, to very visible mistakes like framing one of the entry doors into the kitchen 1.5” out of plumb from top to bottom. These mistakes were quite stressful to address/correct because we were the ones who noticed them and then had to alert project management vs the other way around. At first this was not a problem, but after a large framing problem which the project manager assured us was fixed but wasn't we lost a lot of trust in the company. We were made to feel like the problem for “whistle blowing” versus higher management taking responsibility or even being willing to have a conversation with us about it. Ultimately, I do not blame the carpenters for mistakes. There were many days a carpenter would show up with an assistant who would get called away early in the day leaving one person to complete a 2 person job and quality suffered. Our project manager was managing 6 jobs and quality control was almost non existent as a result. In summary: If we had to do it again, perhaps you can benefit from our top lessons learned from the experience. 1.) Do not sign the contract without aggressive and detailed look at every line item. We reviewed it before signing but not nearly thoroughly enough. We were under the impression we needed to sign to get the project scheduled and that things could be changed later. Not the case! This document is the holy grail of the project. Do not sign unless you are comfortable with every charge and job included. There were multiple mistakes in that document that we missed. For example, we had filled out paperwork saying we did not require a biff at the work site because workers could use our basement bathroom, but it made it into the contract and it was a $600 oops on our end. 2.) Do not sign contract without another thorough look through. Every change including refund for mistakenly ordered supplies on the part of castle (entire pallet of concrete and boxes of unused and unnecessary leveler supplies in our case) will cost you $125 change order fee and restocking fees. 3.) Aggressive management of project. Double check that work they say they will do in contract actually gets done how they say they will do it. Double check quality of work, and be prepared for pushback. ALL this being said, The experience was not all bad. The designer we worked with was very helpful and created a plan that neither of us had thought of that really transformed and worked well with our space. (She did retire mid project and is no longer with the company, so we can’t recommend her name.) We also had no issues with any of the work the sub contractors Castle used, the dry wall, HVAC, and electrical crews all did fine work and Castle’s project manager ensured they corrected mistakes if they did come up without issue. Overall Rating: 1.5/5 stars"

FAQs for closet service projects in Minneapolis, MN

Building a custom closet costs about $2,000, on average. Because many types, sizes, and designs are available, the cost to build custom closets ranges from $250 to $6,000 or more. A reach-in closet is on the lower end of the price range from about $250 to $1,500, compared to a walk-in closet at $750 to $3,500 or a wardrobe at the high end between $1,500 and $6,000 or more.

The main difference between a closet and a wardrobe is that a closet is a separate room for general storage with its own door, and a wardrobe can be either built-in or freestanding place to store clothing. A walk-in or reach-in closet connected to a bedroom often serves the same purpose as a wardrobe by primarily storing clothes and shoes. A built-in wardrobe often does not have doors and leaves clothes exposed to view, whereas a standalone wardrobe usually has doors.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:

  • A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.

  • A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.

  • A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.

Yes, building a custom closet can definitely add value to your home. Creating a more useful and pleasing space to your home, especially a custom closet for prospective home buyers to imagine as their own, is likely to increase the value. However, avoid overdoing it with a closet that takes up too much space that’s otherwise more useful as living space, or paying extra for overly lavish materials and finishes that aren’t likely to add more value than they cost.
