Customers say: True professional

"Christine is always prompt, professional, and she looks at my space with energy and excitement. (Usually I'm feeling a fair amount of dread-shame-you name it - but it is never energy or excitement!) Two pairs of hands make for much quicker work and you can learn the process - the solutions are always clever. I also appreciate the care she shows, both with how she looks at my systems (she is able to place herself in my shoes and discern how I view it so she can help with setting up a space) and simply handling objects. At the same time, she's really fast."

"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"I have really enjoyed my experience with Mendoza’s Home Cleaning Services to date. From their first visit for our assessment, I felt comfortable leaving my home in their hands. Jose is professional and responsive. I try to keep a relatively neat home but when we arrived home from the deep clean we were thrilled (and surprised) at just how much cleaner the house looked and felt. I would absolutely recommend this business."

"I was hesitant to leave them alone in rooms when I couldn't directly supervise them.  There was just a vibe I got.  They did what I asked them to for the most part, but I think, I just overwhelmed her with the amount of things I asked her to do.  A couple of things was forgotten, but I really asked a lot of them.  On the other hand, the entire time they were here, she gave me 8 hours of hard work.  She was a little late, but she notified me that she's going to be late."

"I tried submitting 3 online retreats and finally hears back on the 3rd one when I threatened to leave if I didn't hear back. When I finally heard back they told me that their salesman was misinformed about taking care of the beetles. Unfortunately I now have an almost dead baby birch tree that has been taken over by those stupid bugs."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

The time it takes to build a closet varies widely depending on the project's size, complexity, and level of customization. On average, construction can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks.

A simple reach-in closet might be completed in less than a day, while a more complex walk-in closet could take one to two days or more. A typical project often falls in the 2-to-5-day range. However, a large, highly customized walk-in closet that requires structural changes, like moving a load-bearing wall, will take significantly longer.

A professional contractor can provide the most accurate time estimate for your specific project. If you are planning a DIY build, it is best to budget additional time.

Since they are so fragile, it is not usually recommended to stack anything on top of your packed lamps. If you have sturdy boxes, and what you plan to put on top of them is of a similar weight, it’s okay to stack.

You can modernize an old-looking closet by just painting it, but beyond that, consider electric elements like recessed or accent lighting. If this is a large and deep closet, you can consider adding an island to the middle or a nice ottoman on a rug. Luxury closets will have even more items, like felt-lined drawers for watches and jewelry, in-wall safes, electronic shoe storage, or a tablet catalog of their items.
