Fast forward to today, the labor warranty is expired so they won't come out anymore. Had to go with another HVAC contractor to put in a whole new system at my own expense. Turns out Dean's did not properly seal the insulation around the coolant lines, allowing water to get in there and corrode the pipes. If you think air conditioning is worth over $4000 a year, call deans. Otherwise, go with somebody who can actually do the job right. The most amazing part of this whole story is the new system costs less than the old system from Dean's. I guess I should have known something like this would happen. My first trouble with deans was over 10 years ago, I had a mixing valve replaced on my boiler for $600. They guy put it on backwards. I had them come back out and re-do it but come on. How do you put a $50 part on backwards when the customer is paying you $600 to do it."

"We had a few small odd-jobs to do around the house, concerning electrical work, and found Creekside here on Angie's List. Andy from Creekside was extremely responsive via text, in which I could send him pictures of the issues and he could get back to me with an estimate. He came to perform three jobs for us: - Take out an old living room chandelier from the 70's that had six separate cords going to six separate bulbs on a dimmer. Install new chandelier with a single cord and single bulb. - Fix/Replace a transformer for a doorbell ringer that has been buzzing for the last 6 years. Previous electricians said there wasn't anything we could do about it. - Install a timer switch for the bathroom heat lamp. I tried doing this myself, and while it worked, it was a consumer grade item from Ace Hardware that had its knob break on multiple occasions. In all three cases, Andy exceeded expectations. He did a great job of swapping out the lights, he replaced the transformer with a new one and it doesn't buzz anymore, and the timer switch is a nice button timer that counts down in 10-minute increments. On top of that, he came in under bid. Andy is FANTASTIC and his company will be our go-to electrician from here on out, no matter what the job."

After doing some basic troubleshooting (the light bulbs were fine) I called Mister Sparky. Robert came out and patiently and diligently inspected the outlets in the bathroom as well as the electrical panel. "Hmmm...This is throwing me for a loop," he said. I was beginning to lose hope. I imagined the worst case scenario: The mess and cost of walls being dismantled to find a defective wire. Yet, Robert persevered. It would turn out that he "nose" what he's doing. "Do you smell that?" he asked. Of course, I did not. He then opened up a wall outlet near the bathroom and discovered two loose wires that were fried and had burned another plastic wire cap. He had found the problem! Robert not only brought light back to our bathroom, he saved our house from a potentially catastrophic electrical fire. Thank you Robert and Mr. Sparky for your professionalism and skill. I won't hesitate to contact you again for any electrical issue in our home!"

"WARNING - make sure you get a fully price estimate up front before they begin to do work. I brought them in to work on furnace/AC unit/split AC unit servicing garage (based on a promotional price for the first two). It was found my split unit needed a recharge for coolant and I was told that it'd only be 5 lbs of coolant and that this would be priced by the pound (which was reasonable). The bill came and they tacked on a flat charge of $219 for the coolant (this is in addition to the $129 charge to look over the split unit). I felt baited-and-switched. I also contacted them about this, and the answer came down to "This is additional profit for us added onto your bill." Not pleased. At all. Particularly since the coolant in question costs approximately $6 per pound and they only used 5 lbs (one would assume that the $129 charge built in enough profit for labor/licenses/equipment due to the limited time spent working on the split unit. Apparently not). Comfort By Design does excellent work, and they do stand by their work, but just be VERY CAREFUL in finding out what they're going to charge you, particularly if something extra comes up when they're doing a job."
