"Overall experience was very positive. Older Majestic fireplace had be giving us intermittent problem past 2 years. Prior repair service (last year) could not identify the problem. Anderson predicted over the phone that the problem was likely the thermopile ... house call verified and replaced it. We've been in this house for 4 years and this is the best the fireplace has worked. Scheduling and phone contact top-notch. Service techs on time, knowledgable and courteous. Will use again as needed."

Small jobs welcome

"THis company was prompt and did a good job. They also checked their work with a camera that snaked up the chimney and it was clean as a whistle. They left the fireplace clean and did not leave a mess."

CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 2\nWE DO NOT SERVICE GAS FIREPLACES\n\nChimney Rebuilds\nWhen deterioration of the chimney reaches the point of no return, the solution is a tear-down and rebuild. A partial chimney rebuild can be done in cases where a portion of the structure is salvageable. All rebuilds include installation of a new concrete chimney crown.\n\nChimney Liners\nChimney liners provide an extra layer of protection between the chimney wall and your home. This additional protection is critical, as defects commonly appear in the chimney wall, beginning a process that gradually erodes the chimney. As the chimney wall gives way to deterioration, the potential arises for the infiltration of smoke and gases into your home, as well as damage

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to determine if your chimney or fireplace damper is open or closed. A simple method is to check for airflow by placing your hand near the fireplace opening; if you feel a draft or hear wind whistling, the damper is open. An open damper might also make the room feel cooler, similar to the outdoor temperature, or cause your HVAC system to work harder than usual. For a more definitive test, you can try a visual inspection, although it may be difficult to see. Alternatively, you can light a small piece of paper and observe the smoke; if it is drawn up the chimney, the damper is open. Always use the damper handle to adjust its position.

The cost to rebuild a fireplace varies dramatically depending on what you want to do and the type of fireplace you are rebuilding. A simple electric fireplace can be replaced with ease and at a low cost. On the other end of the spectrum, a wood-burning fireplace could cost well into the tens of thousands. The good news is functioning fireplaces increase your home’s value and are generally a good investment.

You can build a fireplace on an existing house, but it’s much easier to construct a masonry fireplace when building a new house. To add to an existing house, you’ll need to build a chimney and ensure the foundation can support a true masonry fireplace. Alternatively, you can purchase a gas or electric fireplace insert, which isn’t as complicated to add to an existing structure.

Bioethanol fireplaces are safe when users follow the instructions and maintain the fireplace. Ethanol is flammable, however, and should be kept away from flammable surfaces, children, and pets.

Selecting the right size wood stove fan depends on the size of your stove and the room it heats. Larger stoves or rooms may benefit from fans with larger or multiple blades, as these can move more air efficiently. Consider the fan's specifications and airflow capacity to match it with your stove's heat output for optimal performance.
