"The Ries Drilling team were great from start to finish. Our pressure tank, which we found out had been working sub-par for quite a while, completely failed on Sunday. Monday morning I contacted Ries Drilling and they were there by that afternoon with a number of replacement tank options on hand. After discussing the various options, we decided to upgrade our tank to a 100 gallon model to improve water pressure even when the sprinklers are running. The team quickly and professionally installed the new tank and were happy to answer all my questions. Very happy with the product, the service, and installation. I would recommend Ries Drilling very highly."

"I should tell you that he was the 3rd contractor to show up with an estimate.  The 1st, which advertises eavuily on sports radio, could not even offer a solution and simply left after 15 minutes.  The 2nd, a snake oil saleman, wanted $4000 to dig out the basment along 3 walls to solve the problem (overkill and I'm out $3000 too much)
His 2 men showed up on time and completed the task that day but advised there was still blockage which had to be snaked out.  I subsequently received a call from Brian, 4-Ever's plumber, who set up an appointment came out and snaked the line clear.  He even went to the store bought me 3 plugs..one brass one so  I could lay carpet w/o a bump where the cleanout was and 2 more for the storm drain and the sewer drain which were never ( after 60 years) opened.  He even took the time to show me how to break out the original brass plugs and how to install new PVC ones.  DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY WITH OTHER CONTRACTORS NOT ON ANGIE'S LIST AND 4-EVER LEADS THE PACK

"I had a flood starting in my basement when my sump pump went out. Luckily, when I called Paul (of PP's Plumbing) he was able to come right over and swap it out before the water really became a problem. He was fast, efficient and fair. I would trust all of my plumbing to Paul."

"Tim Haigh was great to work with at our inspection. Tim was very thorough and patient, answering all the questions I was bombarding him with. Tim never made us feel like he was rushing the inspection. For a city boy moving to the country, I know nothing about wells and septic systems. Although I was doing my own research, Tim was very helpful explaining how both systems work and recommending improvements for both systems. Tim examined every square inch of the home. He crawled into the attic, both the house and pole barn. He climbed to the peak of the roof to check the vent caps. He thoroughly stressed both well and septic systems. Tim made the inspection feel like a guided tour of our new home-to-be. At the end of the inspection, Tim reviewed all the photos he took during the inspection, pointing out the few minor issue that we would address once moved in. The inspection report we got the next day was very complete. It included all the photos Tim already reviewed with us. Everything in the report was very detailed, making us very confident about the purchase we were about to make. When the well water tested positive for bacteria, Matt Haigh calmed my nerves. Matt took the time to explain the test results to me, that the issue was treatable and not a deal breaker on the home purchase. Matt explained all the steps that would be taken to correct the issue, which the seller paid for. Weatherstone was great to work with and I would highly recommend them to my friends and family."

"For months, occasionally, there would be a puddle of water on my basment floor from inches to feet in from the wall. I have a HydoFlo drain tile system installed from a previous owner. I found that HydoFlo was no longer in business and didn't know who to go to for this problem so I called three companies for an estimate. The first company didn't even come out, the second company said I needed all the drain tiles dug up and replaced with their tile along one wall for a total of $4,200. The third company I called was StayDry and Wayne Nichols came out. He had been the owner of HydroFlo, who had gone out of business, and said they service the HydroFlo system. He immediately noticed that I didn't have a tile leak, but that I had a plumbing leak from above. Why I didn't notice that nor others who looked at it, specifically the guy who gave me the $4,200 estimate, I have no idea.  Wayne suggested I have two additional clean-out drains put in (I needed only one) and then flush out all drains to make sure the water was flowing through the drains properly.
I saw StayDry on Angie's list and decided to call them too and was so happy I did, especially because they service HydroFlo systems.

"Takes for ever to get a return a call. Also took a week to get someone out for repairs. They said they would reimburse me for septic repairs and it took over 3 months for that to happen."

"Kase did our new home inspection as well as the well/septic for the home we were selling. He was on time, professional and extremely pleasant to work with. When the VA needed some additional documents for our mortgage he got them right over to us (same day). And the owner and office manager were always friendly too. I would hire this company again and again."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Your septic tank naturally contains the beneficial bacteria it needs to function, so you typically don't need to add more. However, if you wish to replenish the bacteria, you can use natural methods. For example, you can add three overripe tomatoes to your garbage disposal or flush 1/4 ounce of active yeast down the toilet every three months. While store-bought septic enzymes and chemicals are available, many experts consider them unnecessary and potentially harmful. The most effective way to maintain a healthy bacteria population is to avoid using chemical drain cleaners, which can kill the good bacteria in your system.

The main difference between a mound septic system and a conventional one is that the drain field in a mound system is built up into a mound composed of sand and gravel to increase the filtration time the wastewater sees before it is returned to the aquifer. There’s also a significant cost difference, with mound systems typically costing far more than standard septic systems.

Good news: You’ll naturally increase the bacteria in your septic tank simply by using it. If you want to encourage more good bacteria growth, stop using products and household cleaners that kill bacteria, such as bleach and harsh chemicals. Never flush antibiotics, and make sure only water and waste go down the tube—not paper products, feminine hygiene products, or diapers.

If your well pump is running continuously (meaning without turning off or stopping), it's a sign that your well pump is starting to break down. The length of time your well pump should cycle is dependent on many factors, like the tank size, pressure setting, and even the amount of water in your well. Generally, your well pump should cycle, or go from running to not running every few minutes.

With so much available information about the ecological effects of cesspools (and their general unpleasantness), it begs the question: Are cesspools legal? In short, sort of. Large-capacity cesspools that serve more than 20 people are completely illegal countrywide. Existing, smaller cesspools are generally allowed as long as they’re not actively polluting. However, new cesspools are illegal to build in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and many states offer programs to help homeowners with the costs of updating cesspools to modern septic systems.
