"Been a few years now. It’s been a constant stubble since day 1. They were late. I took the day off. Sprinklers are almost ALL to low for my grass height. I constantly have to monitor the system as I have heads not popping up consistently. I then have to go dig them up and take out the pressure regulator valve which part of what makes the i20 hunters cost more in the first place. Technicians have been a few times in the first year putting bandaids on things and showing me how to fix them. I don’t bother calling them anymore as I know they are not going to come raise all the sprinklers or put 6in heads on them. Multiple sprinklers don’t sit straight in the ground either which is another fight on its own. All in all I would never do it again with this company. The staff and secretary were great with me. Workers were friendly just not good at rhere job except the lead tech who was the only one who spoke partial English also which made it even harder. Feel free to ask me about the rest of the problems if you wish."

"TERRIBLE PEIPLE TO WORK WITH. IM OUT $50. It took about 2 weeks to get Brian out to give me an estimate. At that time, he told me he charges $50 for an estimate which goes towards the work if he’s hired. He’d not mentioned that before and it was a red flag but I gave him the $50 and he said he’d be back on 7/19. I texted him the day before to confirm and he didn’t respond. So I texted again that evening and the text wouldn’t deliver. I called and a msg said I was calling from a restricted number, he blocked me! I called Cameron the next morning and explained what happened and he said he was trying to reach Brian as well. He told me he’d come out and do the work and would call me back with some options of when he could come. Four days have passed and no call back. I’ve tried calling again and his mailbox is full. TERRIBLE WAY TO DO BIZ!!"

"We purchased a Hotsprings Grandee spa from this Grand Rapids Michigan area company. When we thought there may have been a problem (there may not have been) with the spa 12 years later, we asked the company if they were able to diagnose and repair. Generally, you ask the company who sold you the spa first--we could have had another company do this. But Pools Plus said they could do this. A Pools Plus employee came and looked at the spa and said they would have to take it back to their warehouse to diagnose it. They broke our spa in transit. We authorized repair. They became unable to reach. Finally they said they could not repair the problem as they had "never done this before". They aggressively tried to sell us a new spa. Because our spa was in very good shape before they took it, we asked for them to return it. They said they would, but did not show up on the delivery date. Then they told us they had made a repair we did not authorize (and was not needed). When we inquired about the lack of delivery, lack of diagnostics, and unauthorized repairs, S**, the repair man at Pool's Plus at that time, said they would return the spa at no charge. Another date was scheduled. Another no show. The company said they were understaffed. We graciously accepted their excuses. Another year went by and they failed to deliver again on a scheduled date. The spa weighs almost 1000 pounds and should not be transported by untrained people. Nor should it be filled with water and installed in the middle of winter. So, we attempted a 4th delivery. Instead, a Pools Plus employee stating he was speaking on behalf of the company owner Sc**t Wheeler, said we would have to pick up the spa ourselves and pay them over $2000 for unauthorized services or else they would file spa abandonment charges. This company then sued us for over $7000 in unauthorized services, and then dumped our once beautiful and now completely destroyed 1000 pound spa in front of the entrance to my small business office (a veterinary clinic). Pools Plus refused to deliver the spa when scheduled to the correct location, but then entered our property on a date and time we explicitly told them they were not allowed to, and caused damage to our spa, our property and my income. According to Watkins, the manufacturer of this spa, this company is no longer allowed to sell their products. I highly do NOT recommend doing ANY business with this company. I will not be a bit surprised if Pools Plus of Grand Rapids Michigan attempts to sue me over my honest and legitimate review of their dishonest business."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use silicone or epoxy hot tub repair kits to repair cracks in a hot tub. Always read the manual to see what the manufacturer recommends before attempting to repair a hot tub.

The average life expectancy of a hot tub cover is between five and seven years. You can extend the life of yours by keeping it clean, using a soft cloth and mild dish soap; applying a vinyl protectant spray; using a cover lift to move and fold the cover carefully, rather than treating it roughly; protecting it from harsh weather; keeping kids and pets off the cover; and cleaning the underside of the cover with a chlorine spray. Investing in a quality cover will also help it last longer and look better.

Shocking your hot tub means adding extra chemicals to the water. Most spa experts recommend doing this once a week for proper hot tub maintenance, but you can do it more if needed. Shocking has multiple benefits, including preventing the water from becoming murky and it’s essential in removing harmful bacteria from the water.

If water is left inside the hot tub pump over a cold winter, it could freeze and severely damage the pump, water lines, and jets. That can cause leaks, which require very expensive repairs. Freezing or leftover water can stain and damage the hot tub shell, which leads to replacement. Even in mild climates, leaving sitting water in the tub or pipes for a long period of unuse is a bad idea, since disinfecting chemicals fade and the water can develop bacteria, algae, and other big headaches when it’s time to use the tub again.

Hot tub repairs cost between $200 and $500 on average. You can minimize those costs by maintaining your hot tub and keeping necessary supplies on hand. An elevated shelf in the garage is a great place to store your water care chemicals so that kids and pets will stay safe and you’ll always have them around.

Your hot tub should be drained of existing water, cleaned, and refilled every three to four months at a minimum. Follow your tub manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning, and rinse thoroughly when finished to eliminate any residue from the cleaning products. This is also a good time to inspect your tub’s cover in good lighting for any leaks, tears, or other damage that might cause problems.

Using your hot tub manufacturer’s suggested cleaners and methods, keep your hot tub filters clean to avoid a loss of water heat. This will help extend the filter’s useful life and efficiency. If the filter is more than two to three years old, replace it with a new one and buy a second filter to keep around as a spare.
