"Legacy showed up on time. Removed my old metal roof. Then had to remove the layer of shingles under it. Followed up with all new shingles. The team did an amazing job. The roof looks amazing. Would hire them for other projects with out 2nd thought"

"My recent meeting with Michael Belfer from Legend Roofing eased my fear of immediate repairs. Mike and Dan inspected my roof, and gave me sound advice on current repairs (minor) and a timeline for a new roof. I had Michael bid roofs in the past when I managed an apartment complex, and I was impressed by his experience and the prices were very good. I am happy to see the same honesty and good, solid advice now that he’s started Legend Roofing. His honest assessment of my roof, and practical advice regarding gutters and roof underlayment, means I will be hiring Legend to do my roof in the next few years."

"BR Roofing did a fantastic job replacing my roof. The pitch was very steep and they completed the job as promised. They sent me pics of the job in progress since I was out of town. Clean up was great too. These guys are the best roofers I have ever had experience with and I would highly recommend this company!"

"My only complication was having to contact Leaf Filter to take off the gutter guards and ran into trouble coordinating between both companies. Hanson's did a good job of communicating quickly by phone and gave good customer service. My new roof looks great!"

"Local guys with a professional mindset with competitive pricing. I bought a house last summer that needed gutters and Avery was very informative on what systems to use that would best fit my budget. He was easy to deal with, and I got gutters installed quickly. Will be using them for my roof in a couple years."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, algae-resistant shingles will prevent algae and moss growth, providing double protection for your roof and roof flashing. The copper-infused granules on algae-resistant shingles release copper ions that inhibit plant growth in general, so moss will have a harder time growing on your roof, too. Keep in mind that copper ions flowing off your roof during rainfall can also inhibit plant growth below, so your gardens and grass may be affected.

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.

Asphalt shingles blister when air gets trapped between building materials, either within the layers of the shingle itself or in adhesives on the undersides of the shingles. As the roof heats up in direct sunlight, the trapped gas expands and creates a bubble in the roof. Eventually, the bubble can pop, leaving an exposed area of decking and underlayment.

Many insurance policies will not cover a roof with two layers of shingles. An additional layer of shingles increases the risk of various kinds of damage, and insurers typically won’t pay claims on a roof with an overlay. Adding a layer of shingles may even jeopardize your insurance coverage entirely, so check your policy to ensure you stay within coverage guidelines.

Just like when you’re shingling a roof, you can install felt underlayment under a metal roof, but a synthetic underlayment like adhered ice and water shield is the best option. These use adhesives rather than mechanical fasteners, so you have fewer penetrations going through your roof deck and a lower risk of leaks. Ice and water shield is also easier to install because you don’t need additional tools or fasteners to attach it to the roof deck.
