"They were the first to respond and arrived even before the window of time initially discussed. That was good because it was super hot and humid! Our AC was out and the plug next to the main pvc drainage was leaking when the ac had been working previously. We needed a new capacitor which he replaced and installed. He was able to fix the leak as well. Checked out our furnace / AC unit and took pictures and advised routine cleaning. Talked about adding an ionizer in the future. Building trust and also upselling for additional services. Happy we had a tech out promptly to fix the two issues. Price was steep and since he did the work with replacing the capacitor we couldn't really back out of it. So you are paying for their expertise and labor and parts they have on hand. About $460 to diagnose and take care of issues in less than 2 hours. So if super prompt service is the main concern and you have the money to spend and for sure dont want to do it yourself, this is good."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.

Yes, mini-split systems are generally less expensive to run than central air conditioners and are significantly more energy-efficient. Because mini-splits do not rely on ductwork, they avoid the energy loss associated with ducted systems, allowing cooled or heated air to reach its destination more efficiently. Additionally, they offer zoned control, meaning you can run units in individual rooms and turn them off in unoccupied areas. This capability can lead to energy savings of about 30% compared to a central air system, resulting in a lower monthly energy bill.

No, it’s not normal for AC vents to drip condensation. A sweating AC vent is a sign of something wrong and can lead to issues like air duct rust or mold growth. Your HVAC unit might not be working efficiently because of a dirty filter or clogged ducts. Alternatively, your ductwork might not have adequate insulation, which allows the cool air in the ducts to meet the humid air outside, causing condensation.

When faced with HVAC issues, it's best to begin by ensuring the thermostat settings are correct for either heating or cooling. If the system isn't responding, check the thermostat for proper function and power supply. It's also important to examine air filters, as clogged ones can decrease performance. Confirm the power supply to the system by checking the circuit breakers and fuses. If these basic steps fail to resolve the issue, contact an HVAC professional for a more detailed diagnosis and repair.

The right type of HVAC system will depend on several factors, including your climate, budget, preferences, and existing HVAC setup. For example, if you live in an area that experiences extreme weather, then a split system would likely be the best option. Or, if budget is a concern, consider installing a ductless system in just one room.
