vinyl liners...in ground installation and sales...Kayak,Hendon,Wilks,Olympic,Ponderosa Any POOL with a beaded liner

"Horrible Experience. Unprofessional, argumentative and non-communicative. I hired Ron Johnson who owns Big Surf Pools based on a recommendation from Leslie’s Pool Supplies Service & Repair. What a huge mistake. The job to replace a rectangle 14 x 38 pool liner was $3300. I gave him $2500 as a down payment and to order the pool liner, the rest was to be paid on completion. On April 20 after measuring my pool and signing the contract, I asked for the target completion to be May 15th. Ron said he could not commit to the 15th because weather could be a factor but that “he had me covered for Memorial Weekend”. Well that has come and gone now. Ron and his employee EJ first came out on May 20 due to some “delays on liner delivery” and removed my old liner then duct taped the top edge of the pool wall foam all the way around and even onto the coping. They were supposed to return on Thurs May 21st but then called in the morning just saying he couldn’t make it and since it was supposed to rain Friday he would return Saturday. On Sat May 23 they were supposed to be there at noon but both arrived between 1:30-2:00pm. They started by sweeping up and vacuuming the debris from the pool bottom. Ron then sprayed a “black rust inhibitor” around the skimmer opening which left black residue all over the inside of the white skimmer and it will not come off. Ron then started to remove the pool light and began complaining, “This is not the correct pool light”, however the pool light has been fine for the last 13 years when it was originally installed. He then told me I needed to figure out the pool light and then he would come back. He told EJ to pack up their stuff to leave. He argued with me and said “I don’t do electrical you need to figure out this pool light situation”. I explained there was no power to the light and it was fine, so I removed the screws for him and then Ron placed the light back into the niche to continue with the job. He then told me the light needed a new gasket between the pool wall and liner. I told him to keep going with the install and I would run up to Leslie’s Pool Supply to get a gasket. I left at 3pm, returned at 3:30 only to find they had packed up and left the job site while I was gone. My neighbor said that as soon as I left to go to the pool store, Ron and EJ packed up their stuff and left quickly. They left the pool liner in the box and the replacement skimmer plate and covers for each return jet. I called and texted Ron several times asking where he was and when he was coming back, but he has not returned any of my calls as of today Tues May 26th. I texted a picture of the black residue all over the skimmer that he ruined and all he sent back was the word “bleach”. Obviously bleach does not remove black rust inhibitor. He took $2500 of the $3300 and never finished the job. Now I have an unfinished pool open to the elements and unable to find anyone that will finish someone else’s job. I have never had such a poor experience. DO NOT Hire this company!"

Pool Construction and Installation questions, answered by experts

Mesh and tempered glass are both very safe pool fencing options because they’re difficult to climb. You might also want to consider installing a pool safety net, and always make sure your pool is maintained properly. You could even consider a swimming pool enclosure that surrounds the pool on all sides.

The best way to heat a swimming pool depends on your pool and location. Those living in sunny environments may find that a solar-powered heater works just fine, but you may need something more reliable, like a gas or electric heater if it’s often cloudy where you live. When in doubt, try a few lower-cost options first to see if they meet your needs before going all in on a more expensive heater.

Small animals, particularly rats and mice, like to burrow inside pool heaters. To keep them out, seal any entry points with caulk or steel wool. Then, place mothballs inside or around your pool heater. As a final measure of protection, you can cover the pool heater in hardware cloth or wood paneling to further block entry points.

Most importantly, you should never cut corners when building a pool. Whether it’s an in-ground or aboveground, poorly constructed pools are dangerous to both the swimmers and your property. Leaks can even lead to home foundation damage. While you can DIY smaller elements of pool installation, always hire a contractor to oversee the process.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.
