"Very poor business practices. Owner does not stand behind his work. 14k to rebuild a chimney and after 2 seasons the mortar is failing and bricks are chipping and now claims he “isn’t in a financial position to work for free”. When asked if he expects his work to last longer than 2 seasons he claimed that he expects it to but sometimes it doesn’t and that the contract explicitly states no warranty. It does indeed say that, but he also said numerous times during the 2 week long project that he “stands behind his work”. He does not. At all. Don’t get taken by this unscrupulous contractor. BUYER BEWARE!!!"

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines. 

Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney. If you install a ventless gas fireplace, it will release low levels of combustion byproducts back into your living space (instead of pushing them outside through a chimney or vent). Ventless fireplaces burn fuel efficiently, so the emissions are minimal—but they could bother people with allergies or respiratory issues.

In most cases, yes, it’s safe to light a gas water heater manually, but you should shut the gas off first, open a window, and let the space air out for about 10 minutes. Modern water heaters shut the gas off entirely if the pilot light goes out, but airing out the area beforehand is good practice and will ensure it’s safe to relight your pilot light manually. Just make sure you turn the gas valve to “pilot” before lighting. If the light keeps going out or won’t light at all, call in a professional.

Installing a gas line is no simple task. From start to finish, you’re looking at anywhere from six to 12 weeks to acquire the correct permits, dig a trench, and connect your appliances.
