Buying a foreclosed home that was built in 1937 and was neglected for many years presents many challenges. Such an endeavor never seems to end and we never have enough time in the day to do everything that needs to be done. Jumping into a "fixer upper" puts a tremendous strain on your relationships, your finances, and your stress level. Over the course of the last year we have made significant progress in trying to to make the house less of a project and more of a home. Despite all of the good intentions and ambitions that we had the day we received the key, we quickly learned the extent of our limitations. It has been so helpful to us to be able to contact one company for so many of the problems/projects that were well over our head. When we first took possession, it was mostly demolition, clean up, and making the house weatherproof and secure. We gutted the original kitchen and I called Andy at Absolute to install and repair the plumbing for the new sink, the dishwasher, garbage disposal, fridge, etc. While there for that job, Andy made an excellent suggestion to move the ancient heating duct from an odd location in the middle of the floor to and under cabinet location that is not even visible while standing. I had a friend who owned a relatively new high end water softener system that he no longer needed after switching to city water. Andy at Absolute agreed to install that used system in my house which was a tremendous cost savings considering all of the other work I needed to still do. Obviously I would not expect them to warranty the used unit I provided, but Andy assured me that it was a reputable unit that was fully serviceable in the future if necessary. In the process, Andy replaced the tiny old well pressure tank that was barely functioning with a much newer and bigger tank he had salvaged from a previous job. I wasn't trying to build a palace, but I was trying to give my family the safest and highest functioning house that we could afford within our budget. Andy was able to explain to us what we needed to do immediately, what we should do eventually, and what is possible for the future. Andy helped us prioritize our projects and set reasonable goals. Knowing our ever shrinking budget, Andy routinely made cost saving suggestions. The day before moving in we realized that our only shower was not working. Andy came over on short notice late that evening to make sure my family had a functioning shower, and he refused to charge me anything extra for the late service call that night. Andy has also fixed our furnace when it broke and repaired our A/C unit that stopped working during one of the hottest stretches of the summer. Each time he was called, he was prompt, professional and extremely fair on price. I have routinely referred people to Absolute Plumbing and Heating and will continue to do do in the future. Andy at Absolute Plumbing and Heating is the only person I will ever call for my heating and plumbing needs. In this report I have listed the date of my most recent contact when he had to fix the thermocoupler on my furnace, but the extensive work Andy has done covers much of the last year. It is tough for me to put an "approximate price" because I have not really kept track, so I listed $1,000 because I was required to put a number in this evaluation. I can tell you that for each service that was performed, i was extremely satisfied on the price and never even questioned it. This is the third home my wife and I have owned and we have had many service providers over the years, and we have never been treated as fairly as we have been with Andy at Absolute. On more than one occasion, Andy has suggested small additional improvements to what he was doing and did not charge me anything extra (or let me pick up the part on my own and he installed at no additional cost). During one service call, Andy actually told me that the job cost less and went faster than expected and that we owed him less than he quoted me at the beginning of the job. That was a pleasant surprise. Andy has more than earned my trust and my business.
