"I contacted Sean to repair my aging HVAC system. Although I have very little knowledge of HVAC, Sean was able to identify, explain, and plan the maintenance of my current system in language I understood and that seemed reasonable. Sean was very responsive via text during our scheduling and I'm happy with the expert level of detail he showed during inspection. I would highly recommend working with him or his team. While an air conditioner can temporarily run with a dirty filter, it is not recommended as it will not work efficiently. A dirty filter forces the system to work harder to circulate cool air, leading to reduced airflow, increased wear and tear, and higher energy bills. When a compressor gets overheated in central air systems or heat pumps, it can still cool your home for a while until it eventually gives out. If the compressor is chronically overheated and no one addresses the root cause, it will create an incredibly expensive problem when your entire HVAC system breaks down and stops working altogether.

This depends on the extent of the freezing. Some ACs only need an hour or two to thaw out, but others may need a full day to completely unfreeze. Once you turn off the system to let it unfreeze, check it periodically to make sure the drain pan doesn’t overflow. When you turn the system back on, keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t start freezing again.

A dirty air conditioning coil can cause your unit to work overtime, leading to reduced efficiency, higher energy use, more wear and tear, and possible ice buildup. If the coils corrode, refrigerant can leak, causing damage, possible mold growth, and an expensive repair bill. By cleaning your AC coils once a year, you’ll have a more efficient unit that’s likely to last longer.

A home AC unit provides anywhere from one-half to five tons of cooling and requires approximately two to four pounds of refrigerant per ton of cooling. At approximately five to 10 minutes to fill one pound of refrigerant, a home that requires three tons of cooling will take about six to 12 pounds of refrigerant and approximately 30 minutes to two hours to completely recharge the unit.
