"I used Renaissance Carpet two years ago to carpet my basement. I was pleased with the work so I hired them again when it was time to recarpet all the bedrooms on my second floor. Bassir came to measure at the time we had arranged. He was courteous and professional. At the store he was very patient with me while I selected carpet, and ordered samples. When I got the samples, I did not like the colors I had chosen when I saw them in my home and again Bassir was very patient and helpful while I deliberated over minor color differences. On installation day, the crew arrived on time, carefully moved and replaced furniture and got the whole job done effiently. The men were very neat, there was no damage to the newly painted walls and they left the job site clean. In the basement, one area needed to be restretched and the crew forman took care of that little problem before he left. For price and service this store is the best."

"Total flooring is great. I would highly recommend them for any carpet installation. I also had them stretch the wall to wall carpeting upstairs. It looks so much better now. Sebastian was professional, competent, experienced, and easy to work with. His team arrived on time and stretched the carpet upstairs and installed new carpet downstairs. The price was reasonable and I felt that I got great value for my money. J"

"I got a few quotes and they were not the most expensive and not the cheapest. They were however the most responsive. They then showed up on time and did a great and timely job steam cleaning the carpet. They asked if I wanted to deodorize for an extra $20. He was v honest - said he didn't necessarily see a need because there was no smell but mentioned the benefits. I opted to go with it largely because we had a sick cat who had a few accidents, and while there was no smell, would be a good add'l step to get rid of any remaining bacteria. In general, great job, I'd hire them again due to customer service, responsiveness, punctuality, reasonable price."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

Avoid placing carpet in the bathroom or the kitchen. After all, moisture is no friend to carpeting. Beyond that, it’s down to personal preference. Some people dislike when a garage or basement features carpet, but others enjoy it.

Carpet density refers to how closely together the fibers of a carpet are stitched into the carpet backing, with values ranging from 1,000 to 7,000. A carpet density value of 3,000 or higher is considered best for most homes, especially in high-traffic areas, such as a living room or dining room. If you’re comparing two carpets made of the same material, a higher carpet density can indicate better durability and longevity. However, carpet density is only one of many factors that can help you determine a carpet’s quality.

The complexity of installation depends on the type of flooring you choose and the level of expertise required to install it. While some materials, like vinyl or laminate, offer relatively straightforward installation processes suitable for DIY enthusiasts, others, such as natural stone or hardwood, often require professional assistance from a flooring company to ensure proper fitting and longevity.

If you have a concrete subfloor, you must secure the carpet padding with adhesive or glue. However, if you have a wooden subfloor, use staples instead. Removing a glued-down carpet can be difficult and time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid glue when possible.
