Customers say: True professional

"Adrian and his team worked at our house on a big porch project. Our basement and kitchen subfloor were taking on water from the outside, but we weren't sure why. They demoed our old porch, found the source of the problem, excavated old fill, waterproofed around our foundation, put in brand new fill and a brand new porch, and constructed a french drain to carry the water away from our house. I have never seen guys work so hard in my life. They did an excellent job. The end results look great! They were also great at those soft skills that are so important...communication, prompt responses to emails, attention to detail. We are beyond happy with their work and will definitely use Premium to replace our walkway and driveway when we're ready."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Chipmunks dig their burrows about three feet deep and up to 30 feet long. The entrances can be two inches wide or more. Chipmunks are fiercely protective of their burrows and use them to protect the nuts and seeds they gather for the long winters.

To locate an underground downspout, you should start by identifying where the above ground gutter drains. Look for an entry point, such as a pipe or elbow leading into the ground. Follow the surface path for signs like depressions, landscaping disruptions, or wet areas after rain. You can use a metal detector or plumber’s snake to trace the pipe underground. For deeper pipes, a professional locator tool or camera inspection may be necessary. Visual markers or utility maps can also guide the search.

Preparation involves site assessment, clearing debris, grading surfaces, and compacting soil to support stable construction.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.
