He checked operation of the boiler, and diagnosed the problem with the help of the boiler manufacturer tech support. He tried to get the old one working again, and seemed to succeed, but I called him back the next morning to report it started acting up again. He ordered the part and returned after it arrived in a few days to install it. The part appeared to resolve the issue and I was good to go.
