"We chose VKB to do our complete gut master bathroom renovation and were so happy with their work in terms of reliability, craftsmanship, and customer service that we hired them to renovate our hall bathroom as well. For both bathrooms we worked with Calvin as our designer and Jason as our project manager, and both of them went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy with the design, that the project ran smoothly and on time, and that the final product was exactly what we wanted. We wouldn't hesitate to use VKB again if we need any other work done on our home, and we have already begun recommending them to family and friends and will continue to do so. We are very pleased with our experience with VKB!"

"I quickly received an estimate on adding insulation to a colonial. The work was scheduled shortly after that. (~1-2 weeks from what I remember). Workers arrived on time and were pleasant. Part of the job included one of the workers climbing through a hole in a ceiling, since there was no access to the attic in that section of the house. That attic section was also the only access to the area above a cathedral ceiling. They spent quite a bit of time making sure that there was insulation between all the beams in the roof above the cathedral ceiling. This insulation makes a huge difference. Initially it was the initial 1965 insulation, ~1 1/2 inch thick and absent in sections. Now it is R44 and was a great investment. It was well worth the cost considering they insulated a large colonial in addition to a section of house that was not easily accessible and took more time than expected. They did not charge more than the estimate."

"

I recently had water damage to the kitchen in my condo in Alexandria, Va which required a complete kitchen model.  Since I?m an absentee owner, unfamiliar with the area and© was under a lot of time constraints, my situation was extremely stressful.  I went through two unreliable contractors before being given an advertisement on Atlantis Home Improvement.  I called this company and spoke to its president , Bayram Gulsen and within four hours, he met with me at the condo. He surveyed my damage and even opened his showroom on a Sunday afternoon for me.  I was very impressed  with his sensitivity to the urgency of my situation. He was professional and knowledgeable, made me feel that I could trust him to do a top notch job.  Within the time frame he gave me for the completion of the job, my beautiful kitchen remodel was complete.  Please see the pictures I?ve attached which I?m sure will not give it justice.  I simply love it.

I am so pleased with this company.  The customer service was top notch-------couldn?t have asked for better.  They were totally reliable, showed up when they said they would and kept me informed throughout the process. A company is only as good as its employees.  These employees worked very hard.  I have never seen anything like it. They were professional in every way, giving attention to detail and exhibiting pride in every aspect of the job.  I am so impressed with this company and I highly recommend them.

"Stallings guided us through a very difficult situation from start to finish when our home was destroyed by a tree. It was a long process but Ronnie was very upfront with us the entire time, always answered every question/concern promptly and everyone in the office was a pleasure to work with. We would not hesitate to use Stallings in the future for any type of work."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.

Historically, Tudor homes originally stemmed from the 15th and 16th centuries, while Victorians appeared during Queen Victoria's reign in the 19th century. The design and structural differences are significant as well. The many types of Victorian architecture—such as Italianate architecture—typically feature ornate trim, wood siding, wraparound porches, and tall towers on top, such as belvederes. On the other hand, Tudor-style homes feature white stucco exteriors with exposed wooden rafters marking the house frame both inside and out.

It pays to hire a project manager or general contractor when you have a large-scale project that will take over a week to complete, especially when it involves structural changes and multiple subcontractors. This includes hiring a general contractor to build a house, add an extension, or manage other projects that need a building permit.

Yes, a home builder or contractor should have the proper licensing and insurance. Licensing requirements vary by state and municipality, but most states mandate that a builder holds at least a general contractor’s license. For specialized work such as plumbing, electrical, roofing, or sewage systems, individual licenses may be required, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to review your local guidelines and confirm a builder's credentials. As you browse professionals, you can also look for the “Angi Certified” badge. This indicates the business meets our certification standards, which include passing a criminal background check, holding applicable state and local licenses, and maintaining an average rating of 3.0 or better.

The average build timeline for a home is between six and 12 months, with timelines pushing toward the upper end of that range if you’re creating a custom design or need a lot of land preparation before getting started. Hiring a general contractor or a custom homebuilder will help speed up the process, as you’ll see fewer delays between different parts of the build process getting done.
