"Ductz of the Upper Bay Region cleaned my ductwork today. The team was professional and friendly. The cost was stated in advance as a firm price and not an estimate. They took before and after pictures which I found very helpful. The owner and his team went above and beyond to suggest ways that I can best maintain my A/C system to minimize the need for cleanings in the future. I recommend them highly."

"I have a dual zone system and the air handler/heat pump unit on the 2nd floor was blowing hot air. I immediately looked up HVAC service in the Bel Air area and came upon Comfort Air. I initially chose this company based on the good reviews. I was told by the technician that based on the age of the unit and problem it was more cost effective to replace the unit instead of making a temporary fix. I agreed and after entertaining some estimates I chose Comfort Air. We negotiated a very reasonable price along with a quality unit. The installers were very professional and completed the work in about 4 hours. I would highly recommend Comfort Air for any Heat and Air Conditioning needs."

"Best Air Quality and Restoration did a spectacular job! I can't say enough about the employees. They did an outstanding job! They were punctual, polite and followed social distancing protocols. They assessed the home and cleaned the air ducts quickly and efficiently. I am very pleased with their service and highly recommended this company. I purchased a new home and had them come clean the ducts to improve the homes environment. "Our dryer vents from the center of the house to just under the second story eves. He did a great job of cleaning it from both ends, and adjusted the dryer hose to an optimal length and resealed it with tape. Also cleaned vents well. I am very particular about mechanics, handymen, and service people. Mack's is on the short list of people I will hire again. The serviceperson was polite and personable as well as very competent. And, he took pains not to track up the carpets. Mack's is a good choice. You'll be satisfied w the results."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

No, it's not advisable to only replace the outside AC unit connected to your system. AC units are designed to work as a cohesive system, and older units work differently than newer units. Therefore, replacing only one component can lead to incompatibilities that affect the system’s performance. Replacing one component can void your warranty, costing you money for repairs.

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers are actually quite similar, though they perform different jobs. Dehumidifiers reduce moisture in the air, while air conditioners work to cool the home. A good central AC unit will naturally perform a certain level of dehumidification due to its design, but it will not be able to handle excessive levels of moisture.

While both have advantages, a split system is generally cheaper than a ducted one. Because they are less invasive to install, the labor costs are lower, and they can be more energy efficient. But, a ducted system might be worth the investment if you run it more frequently.

Excessive humidity in a room often manifests through visible signs like condensation on windows or walls, a musty or damp odor lingering in the air, peeling wallpaper or paint, and the presence of mold or mildew. Experiencing discomfort due to a consistently clammy or sticky feeling can also indicate high humidity levels.

It depends on how fast an HVAC technician can resolve the issue. First, if there's a refrigerant leak, you’ll want to keep small children and pets out of the house. Next, you’ll want to turn off the AC unit to ensure no more freon enters your home. Finally, you’ll need an AC technician pro to come to your home and fix the leak immediately. Ultimately, it’s best to leave your home if you discover a freon leak—the risk of exposure is very high, and it’s not worth risking your health to stay.
