"The owner Justin came to my house to give an estimate and he was easy to talk to. He was down to earth and I was able to ask every reasonable and unreasonable question I had. His office manager Jess answered all my questions through email courteously when I had them. The crews were quick, responsive, and careful in my home, especially around my curious dog. I asked for a very elaborate and difficult herringbone tile backsplash. The team handled its tediousness beautifully. The estimate was much lower than another company I had researched. I plan to use Adam contracting next year to replace my roof ... yes, they do that, too!"

"The whole experience was wonderful! Calvin Lee came to our home to measure the space and provided exactly what we asked for as our remodel design. Jason and his crew worked very hard to complete our kitchen as quickly as possible while doing excellent work. Christian always answered question and addressed concerns as the process went on. Jason followed up each evening to let us know what would happen next. They arrived on time each day worked full days. We got all new cabinets, flooring, countertops, lighting and paint. We couldn’t be happier with our new beautiful kitchen!"

"Excellent. The workmanship was superior, and the time it took to finish all renovations was minimal. A, B, & C should be at the top of everyone's list for overall home remodeling."

"Our backyard pool built by Bent Palm was recently completed and we couldnâ t be any happier! My husband and I had wanted to build a pool for years, so when we were finally ready to do it, we wanted something nice. I interviewed several builders before hiring Bent Palm. Bent Palm stood out to me for several reasons. First, the owner, Tommy Griest, spent a long time patiently answering all our questions and we were impressed by his expertise and honesty. He clearly has years of experience and is just a pleasant Tommy spent a lot of time working out the design details for our pool and patio, which was a little complicated due to the dimensions of our property. He did not charge us for working out multiple versions of the design, as other builders were going to do. We made several modifications and Tommy worked with us to make sure we stayed within our budget. Whereas other pool builders seemed more concerned with charging us as much as they could, Tommyâ s main concern was that we would be happy with the final product. We stayed within the budget and ended up getting a far superior product than I ever thought we could afford! Let me tell you, we are beyond thrilled with not only our pool, but also our patio and deck, which were also designed and installed by Bent Palm. Never having owned a pool before, we had no idea what would look good but Tommy gave us some great ideas and suggestions based on his experience to help guide our decisions. He earned our trust along the way and all of his installers and tradespeople were top-notch. If you are looking to build a pool, look no further â Bent Palm is the best in the business. We look forward to spending long days lounging around our beautiful new swimming pool! Thank you, Tommy!"

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

A custom home is one that you design from the ground up, allowing you to customize everything from the square footage to the interior layout to all of the materials used. A spec home is one that a builder has designed and gotten approvals for. Spec homes may give you some limited options for the layout and materials, but most of the build is pre-set. Custom homes cost more and take longer to build.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

The average cost to build a modular home is around $270,000, and most modular homes total between $180,000 and $360,000. Of course, this price varies significantly by location, and the price tends to follow the cost of living in the area. There are quite a few other factors at play that can affect your pricing, including the following:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Site preparation, including land clearing and leveling

  • Type of foundation

  • Utility connections

  • Cost of building permits

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.
