Stumps HVAC LLC is your local Heating and A/C company known for Dependability, Honesty, and Quality. As a new small business we recognize our customers satisfaction is the most important thing to further our success. For any residential/commercial Heating and A/C replacements, service, or repairs give us a call.

"Brandon Stump runs his own small business, and we experienced the advantages of that. He did the estimate, then he and helpers did the work. He gave us a detailed evaluation of the old system, and explained what needed to be removed. So there were no misunderstandings. He is clearly knowledgeable of the industry. He provided clear details of what could be done and gave us three alterative estimates. Our old house offered some challenges. When there were difficulties getting to the under-the-house crawl space wiring, then in removing attic aged equipment, he worked until the problems were solved. That took extra labor and I offered to pay more, but he was not going to charge more than the estimate he gave. I thought that to be very generous. Also on those hot days, he immediately brought in a window air conditioner to tide us over while the whole-house AC had to be shut off. That was great! In contrast the man giving the estimate from the larger company did not really look at our system, offered only one option that he suggested, and was not offering to remove old equipment that was in the attic area or the outside oil tank. Stumps gave us fast, honest, reliable and thoughtful service. We will continue to have them service our new system. I highly recommend them."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

A handyperson generally charges $60 to $75 per hour for ceiling fan repair. If you need to hire an electrician, they charge $50 to $100 per hour. Some may charge on a per-project basis, which can be anywhere from $50 to $175. Contact a ceiling fan repair professional near you for a quote.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

Manufacturers of ceiling fan-rated boxes must indicate on the box that the unit is for that purpose. To check your model, remove the light fixture and look inside the box for wording that says it’s rated for fan use. If you don’t see words saying so, it likely needs to be replaced with an appropriate one that is rated for use with a ceiling fan.
