"When my neighbor across the street asked me over to see her new granite countertops, I couldn't believe how great they came out. It gave her kitchen a completely updated look. With the extra overhang, beveled edges, back splash, modern faucet and new sink, I thought she went all out - and she did. Then she told me the price and I was amazed. I asked her for the name of the contractor and she gave me Coskun’s number over at US Granite Marble. I called and was able to make an appointment for a free estimate within two days of the call and the countertops were installed a week later. I got a fantastic package deal that included a high quality granite, dismantling and removal of the old countertops, disconnecting and re-connecting the appliances, new sink, new faucet and had it all professionally done by Coskun Uslu and his assistant in one day. I was very pleased with his suggestions, his attention and craftsmanship. I highly recommend US Granite Marble!"

"Everything was excellent. From the moment we had Advanced Granite solutions come out to give us an estimate, to picking out our quartz countertop, to the gentlemen that did the installation and the gentleman that did the plumbing, everyone was professional responsive and a pleasure to work with. Would definitely hire again"

"The Lionize Preservation services was excellent and their commutation skills were very professional. They recommended products for others applicants in my home. I sent before/after pictures of my shower to my neighbors, and the Neightbors requested Lionize Preservation POC to have their tile/shower clean."

"Techs showed up during time window, setup, and got to work. Fortunately, all three rooms in addition have windows, so techs could use sheltered one in laundry room to exhaust fumes (the day was rainy, and bathroom window is on east side). WARNING: Fumes are STRONG! The tech said tub would be ready for use in 24hrs., but I found I had to give it three days, with window cracked open, before fumes dissipated enough to enter room. Glaze seems to be holding up. Had non-skid surface added for additional fee, as original glaze was slippery. There are some small imperfections, as though dust had settled into the glaze, but that is mentioned in the initial contact. Overall, love that I could save my tub!"

"We used AKC for our extensive kitchen remodel that included completely tearing everything down to the studs, taking down load bearing walls, moving doors, and rebuilding a much larger kitchen from scratch. Dan was extremely professional and responsive throughout the process. While no renovation process goes without any hiccups, Dan truly tried to make everything as painless as possible and worked around manufacturing delays and errors as quickly as possible. We have fully settled into our new kitchen over the past 5 months and can't imagine how we ever functioned without such an amazing kitchen!"

"Greg came to our house to make a template of our counter top so they could make the new top fit exactly in place. We had several scheduling issues because my wife and I were going on vacation, but Dave worked with us to meet our needs. When the day came to install the counter top Dave and his helper arrived right on time and the job was done promptly. The new top looks great and fits perfectly. I would definitely use Jeffress Stone again."

Marble Restoration questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot use vinegar to polish marble. It is too acidic for cleaning or polishing and can etch the surface. Instead, opt for non-acidic cleaners made specifically for marble. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to ensure proper application and to protect the marble. However, a damp mop can be an effective marble cleaner when used appropriately and as long as moisture is immediately soaked up.

There are three main downsides to quartzite: the cost, the porosity, and the weight. As a natural stone, there’s a level of scarcity that can drive up the price of certain types of quartzite. Even more common varieties are less affordable than synthetic materials like laminate and other natural stones like granite.

You’ll also have to reseal your quartzite countertop annually to combat the natural porosity and reinforce your cabinets to account for the added weight.

In most cases, chipped or cracked granite can be salvaged, but it depends on the size and scope of the damage. For example, a pro can smooth out small chips on the edge with polish pads or an angle grinder, but a crack that runs through the stone's surface has little-to-no chance of being fixed easily.

Yes, a granite countertop can be cut in place. However, learning how to cut a granite countertop in place is a lot trickier than cutting granite in an open, well-ventilated space. You’ll also need to protect everything in the surrounding area (like your kitchen cabinets and appliances), but even that might not be enough to prevent dust from getting stuck in tight spots. If you absolutely must cut a granite countertop in place, consider hiring a pro to get the job done in the cleanest and safest way possible.

Overall, granite tends to cost more than marble. Prices for each material will fluctuate depending on the source of the stone, your location, shipping costs, and the thickness of the material. Labor to install marble or granite countertops typically ranges from $35 to $45 per hour. Granite and marble tile and slab costs compare as follows:

  • Marble tile: $7–$10

  • Granite tile: $5–$15

  • Marble slab: $25–$60

  • Granite slab: $50–$100
