"Ferney oversaw a full renovation of my entire (small) bathroom. It was a complicated job and I had (unbeknownst to me at the time) selected an especially difficult bespoke floor tile, which ended up requiring enormous skill to install. Mr. Leal took the work exceptionally seriously, was capable, punctual, and completely reliable. He kept my small apartment clean throughout the job, and I felt very confident leaving him and his team in my home during the day while I was at work. While his pricing is not the lowest, I will 100% use his services again, and recommend him to anyone."

"David did an outstanding job installing our bathroom exhaust fan. We were able to schedule the installation within a few days of my initial call. His rate was the most reasonable of three companies I called through Home Advisor. Very professional and will call him again if we need more work done at our home. I recommend him highly!"

Bathroom Fan Installation questions, answered by experts

The average life span of a thermoelectric fan operating seasonally is two to three years. However, the life span of a wood stove fan depends on its quality, usage, and maintenance. Regular cleaning of the blades and ensuring the fan operates within its recommended temperature range can help prolong its life span.

Keeping dust off fans can keep them working optimally and help keep dust mites or bacteria from building up. Dust fans weekly with a duster, microfiber cloth, old pillowcase, or vacuum attachment. You can also try spraying a clean fan with a store-bought dust-repellent product or making a DIY dust-repellent with water and a small amount of liquid fabric softener mixed in.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

When maintained and repaired when necessary, your whole-house fan can last between 10 and 20 years. Check your warranty when purchasing the unit, as it will typically only cover between 5 and 15 years. Its longevity will also depend on your local climate and how much you use the fan. Having a professional size your fan appropriately for your home size will also help ensure it doesn’t get overworked, which can limit its lifespan.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.
