"John the owner was very professional. He explained all aspects of the waterproofing work that was to be done. Any questions we had, he answered so that we understood what was to be done. He was respectful and pleasant during the entire process. When we left messages needing to speak to John, he was prompt in returning our calls or texts. John's crew was also professional and resp0ectful. They were thorough in performing the waterproofing job as John had explained it. The work was completed within the timeframe. The crew did a great job on the waterproofing as well as cleaning up the areas. We are very pleased with the completed. There has been an extremely heavy rain for an extended period of time since the work was completed. I can honestly say the water problem is no longer an issue--basement is totally dry. We believe we made the best choice in choosing John's company, Brother's Waterproofing, LLC, to do the work,"

"Roland jr and his crew from MD Waterproofing did a great job under difficult circumstances. A previous renovation by a previous owner dropped the basement floor. What we didnâ t realize is that they had never added underpins so the foundation was undermined. Once Rolandâ s crew broke into a wall to solve a leak, they saw this. They explained the issue clearly and explained the remedy. We were able to quickly get a new quote for the additional work from our company contact, Steve Maney, who was very professional throughout this. Total cost for our house was just over $20k for underpinning two walls and redoing the associated French drains. We will definitely go with MD Water proofing to finish the last two walls, once we have the money saved"

"Basement Waterproofing Nationwide did excellent work in a timely and proffessional manner for a reasonable and appropriate fee. They said they would complete the work in 1-2 days and were done in one day. They were very careful and left things neater than they were before they came. We have used them before with great success and would use them again. So far, the problem we had, water in our basement, has not recurred, and our basement is bone dry. Tnank you Basement Waterproofing Nationwide."

"We are the 2nd owners of a 15 year old home. Don't know why the original owner/builder did not put a sump pump in the basement, as it would have been a cheaper option in the end. If you are building a new home with a basement, put a sump pump in, don't scrimp on what is a very valuable insurance policy. After looking at a handful of other companies to retrofit a sump pump in our cellar, we picked All Aspects Waterproofing, LLC. They did a great job! Very high quality work, and outstanding service. They did a great job! We enthusiastically recommend All Aspects Waterproofing to any homeowner!"

"

This company and crew is very impressive.  Here's a little background info.  Our property required a lot of help due to rainwater and a broken clay pipe (50 years old).  The house sits on the side of a hill.  When it rains, the water comes straight to the length of the whole house.  The previous owner had installed a "point" drain system which was useless.  They also installed a sprinkler system surrounding the whole property which works nicely for the planting beds.

When David and Grant came out to the house for an initial consultation, I was very concerned about the disruption of current drains, the sprinkler system, and the shrubs.  First, while walking around the property, they were able to talk me through their process and reassure me that it could be done.  I never felt rushed, and they were patient with all my questions.

Second, Grant gave me an itemized price list for my property, so I could see where the money would be going.  I wasn't sure if I could afford it all at the same time.  The scope of work was major, but he was able to break it down into stages.  Through more emailing with Grant, another visit to the property, and other Angie List contractors coming out, I choose Drainage and Erosion to do the whole scope of work.  Their winter pricing and customers service sealed the deal.

Here's a list of the work done:  Excavating along the length of the house and creating two 30' French drains which flow into 6" pipes extending all the way to the curb (under sidewalk) on both sides of house (95'), Extending and connecting 3 downspouts on right hand side of house into a 6" pipe, Adding 3 drain cleanouts, Capping the 50 year old clay pipe that broke, Installing new sub pump piping and connecting into drainage pipes, Waterproofing wall/slab of foundation on Sunroom and two basement walls, Sealing cracks in walls, Installing 3 new window wells, Restoring grade for drainage, Removing all debris including shrubs not wanted, Transplanting two trees, The promise that our sprinkler system will be working in spring when it's turned on or they'll come out and fix it.

The actual job took only two days as contracted.  Grant came out the morning work began to answer questions and make introductions.  The crew of 11 men were hard working (9am-7pm) and also answered my questions.  All of this work was done by hand digging which allowed them to carefully move my sprinkler system and maneuver around the other piping.  When they were done, they seamed the grass back beautifully.  You couldn't tell what had been done unless you looked very closely.  Also the drainage holes in the cemented curb look as though they have been there forever.  We have 4 holes on the right and 3 on the left.

I highly recommend this company.

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

If foundation problems are not fixed, they will likely worsen over time, leading to more complex and expensive repairs. Neglecting a damaged foundation can cause a range of issues, including:

  • Structural Damage: Minor problems like small cracks can escalate into major structural issues. This can damage the house above the foundation and, in severe cases, lead to foundation walls caving in or a total collapse.

  • Water Damage and Pests: Moisture and water intrusion can cause flooding, mold growth, and pest infestations.

  • Health and Safety Risks: Mold can lead to poor indoor air quality and other health risks, while structural instability poses a significant safety hazard.

  • Reduced Home Efficiency: A compromised foundation can negatively impact your home's energy efficiency.

To avoid these escalating problems and costs, it's best to hire a foundation repair company to address any issues as soon as you become aware of them. The earlier problems are discovered and fixed, the lower the repair cost will likely be.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Some basement waterproofing methods can actually cause your water or moisture problems to get worse, which is why it’s so important to call in a professional who knows how to solve your underlying issue and use the appropriate waterproofing methods. An example of this would be applying latex waterproofing paint to the insides of your basement walls without fixing the water issue outside. Doing so can trap moisture in the basement walls, which can promote mold growth, peeling paint, and even damaged concrete. However, when done by a professional, the only downside to basement waterproofing is the up-front cost.

Yes, it’s worth it to repair a crawl space foundation, even if the issue seems relatively minor. Foundation problems often get worse and more expensive to fix if you leave them untreated. Additionally, your entire home, from the framing and flooring to the roof system, relies on the foundation for even and level support. Issues with your foundation will almost always manifest as problems in and above your living space, so it’s important to find a solution.

Yes, it is possible to over-dehumidify a house by removing too much moisture from the air. This can create an overly dry environment that negatively affects those with respiratory or skin issues, and may cause your skin, hair, and sinuses to feel dry. However, this is unlikely to happen with most modern dehumidifiers, as they are equipped with moisture sensors and adjustable settings. These features allow the unit to pause automatically when the desired humidity level is reached, preventing the air from becoming uncomfortably dry. In contrast, older or more basic dehumidifiers left running for too long could potentially over-dry the air. To avoid this, aim for a balance between removing excess moisture and maintaining a comfortable environment. You can often monitor your home's humidity levels using a modern thermostat for guidance.
