"Howard Glancy came to inspect cracks in my home's concrete walls where the foundation was sinking. He, as a Certified Field Inspector, went over the whole house with me, explaining why the walls were cracking, and what should be done to alleviate the problem. Howard explained what JES Foundation would do, approximately how long it would take, and provided a quotation for the repairs. Besides raising the problem walls and ensuring they would be structural sound and guaranteed to stay that way for the remaining life of the house, he also advised me of how JES would repair minor cracks in the remaining building as well as having s sump pump installed to wick away any ground water from damaging any other parts of the structure. Mr. Glancy was very courteous; knowledgeable of his profession; and walked us through any questions we might have had concerning the processes. Due to the permit process taking so long, the work on the house won't start for a few months, and if Mr. Glancy is any indication of the professionalism of the rest of the JES Foundation personnel, I'm confident that the work will be done properly, in a timely manner and to my complete satisfaction."

"Water started leaking into my finished basement this past winter. Dan, from Archer Contractors, came out a few times, free of charge, to troubleshoot. He patiently and methodically examined all the potential sources of water entry while keeping suggested repairs to a minimum. He discovered that the cause was a back yard drainage problem together with a failing internal foundation drainage system and drew up a price quote with detailed diagrams for a plan to remedy the situation. The crew started immediately, keeping within the scope of work and cost outlined in the price quote. They installed a back yard drainage system to control storm water and replaced the blocked portion of the foundation drainage system. They were very professional and quickly but carefully completed the work, leaving the site spotless. Since then the basement has remained dry during numerous heavy rain falls, even during the rapid snow melt with rain that occurred this past January. "This company impressed us from beginning to end! The estimate and finished price were far lower than other quotes, while the quality, speed & cleanliness of work was far superior to what others offered. They hung plastic sheeting & barriers surrounding the whole work area & used a ventilation system so there was never dust anywhere. ( Concrete dust is dangerous, not just messy!) The entire team ( 5 people 1st day, 3 on 2nd day) always removed shoes & treated our house & us with respect. They walked us through the steps of the job, showed us the work & the damage/ wet areas & the undamaged areas at several points as they were doing it (without being asked). "I worked through Dave Arias who was prompt in contacting me and scheduling an appointment to discuss my concerns and my thoughts about what needed to be done.  Dave took the time to walk around the house with me and made the appropriate measurements, and provided me with a thorough written estimate on the spot.  I also contacted a general contractor we had used in the past -- more about that later.  
A short while later, I contacted Dave Arias directly to schedule the work and we set the date for 1 July -- he assured me the entire project would take no more than 2 days, but he scheduled us for three days in the event of rain.  
On 1 July, Dave's crew arrived at approximately 9:00 a.m. and Dave came shortly thereafter to make sure the foreman knew everything that had to be done.  In short order, the crew went to work -- first removing a tall Holly Bush that we had discussed and simultaneously starting to dig down to the base of our home's foundation..  
The crew was nothing short of amazing!  In 100 degree heat, these men manually dug to the very footers of our foundation -- to use a machine would greatly risk damaging the foundation so this kind of work must be done manually.  By the end of the day, they managed to dig a trench approximately 12 - 14 feet deep and at least 45 feet long and additional trenches adjacent to our front porch (2 - 3 feet deep) and for an addition to the house (also 2 - 3 feet deep - the addition does not have a basement).  Before leaving for the day, they had repaired all cracks using hydraulic cement and sealed the entire foundation with a solid coating of the black, tar-like sealant.  
During this first day, they also hand dug a trench that ran from the top of our lawn to and under our sidewalk and they cut through the curb, installed the appropriate drainage pipes, and then rebuilt the section of curb they had removed.  
The next morning, the crew installed a membrane against the foundation that reached over the footers (essential to keeping water from seeping in at the bottom) and then began the process of filling the trench back in.  With every foot or so of earth they used a mechanical tamper to ensure the earth was well packed.  
In addition to the membrane that was installed against our foundation, DES also installed a second membrane that will serve as an awning to ensure water is directed away from the foundation.  
Once the trench was filled in, the crew dug two shallow trenches and installed the French drains, one of which was covered with stones and the other with sod (due to the location).  Both French drains were connected to a pipe running through the curb and the front gutter downspout was connected to a second pipe running through the curb.  A second downspout pipe was extended in our backyard.  
When the work was completed, the crew installed sod and put down mulch. leaving the job site clean and tidy.  
Overall, they did an amazing job and I am confident that any seepage problems we may have had will be corrected by their work.  I specifically chose DES as they typically recommend exterior foundation work and landscape adjustments to stop water leakage into a home.  Most companies want to sell homeowners internal French drains and an accompanying sump pump, for which they have to jackhammer out the edges of the cement slab -- a dusty and noisy job that isn't very appealing if you have a finished basement.  This kind of job assumes water will continue to leak through the foundation so the problem is not really being corrected and continued leakage will eventually weaken any foundation and it can still lead to mold problems.  
The price of the work was more expensive than a general contractor we had used in the past for a smaller repair inside our master bathroom.  After two visits, the GC gave me a price, but I had no written estimate.  When I asked about running pipes under the sidewalk I was told there may be rebar underneath and they would have to break up the sidewalk.  When I explained that I could not give them permisison to break up the sidewalk and they would need to get the appropriate permits I was told I should get the permits.  The GC then suggested sinking a well into my front lawn into which the drainage pipes would run and from which water would then leech out, an unsatisfactory solution since most of our yard is clay and there would be no place for the water to drain during the strong rains we seem to get with greater frequency.  When I asked about moving our AC compressor they told me they would work around it and not move it, which I felt posed the risk of having the trench collapse and the AC compressor falling in, damaging our foundation, and taking out our AC compressor.  DES had an HVAC company come in and disconnect the AC compressor and the same company returned to reconnect it after the workmen put it back in place.  
The GC was less expensive, but I didn't care for the attitude they gave me when I insisted they go under the sidewalk and break through the curg, which for DES is a pretty standard effort.  I was also none too pleased about being told to get the permits myself or that our compressor would not be moved.  
DES also created a swale to give a drainage route for surface water.  
DES went to some extra lengths for us - they corrected a few connections to two downspouts and they traced a downspout and dug into the earth so I could see where the water exited.  This extra effort allowed me to see this particular drainage point for the first time since I bought the house.  As the drainage pipe was simply left underground and has long been clogged with mud the gutter was probably rendered useless for all these years.  DES did this at no extra charge.  
Dave Arias and his crew did a fine job for us.  We may have gone overboard with the work that we had done as I never saw anything more than minor signs that we were getting a small amount of seepage, but I am confident that this problem has been corrected and we will have the peace of mind that our foundation is well protected.  Other foundation walls are blocked by a front porch and an addition to our house that doesn't have a basement so we're not worried about those walls.  
Overall, the work appeared to be extremely well done.  Just as Dave said, the entire effort was a two-day job and because it was outside work there was no disturbance and minimal noise.    In the end, we have a 5-year warranty on the work and a 20-year warranty on protection from any future seepage.  
In the end, it was excellent service.  Dave Arias never once failed to respond to a phone call or a text message.  When we had a problem with our AC compressor  not being hooked back up the day work was completed, Dave did his level best to get a hold of the HVAC company.  They came to the house first thing the next morning and when there appeared to be a problem later the same day, Dave was right on top of it.  
I would easily recommend DES and Dave Arias to anyone who is experiencing water in the basement.  Excellent, excellent service!!

"Going with JP General Construction was a bit of a leap of faith as most of the reviews on Angie's List are for smaller jobs, but I could not have been happier with Mr. Peredo and his crew's work.  After getting estimates from several firms who'd reviewed the plans from my structural engineer, his bid for the work was very fair -- not the cheapest, but more than $15,000 less than the much larger firm which had been the runner up.  I'd note that the work at my house was so complex (replacing the entire foundation of the house from the inside) that two of the firms I interviewed wouldn't even bid on the work.
Mr. Peredo immediately knew how to best execute the engineer's plans and he quickly demonstrated his construction knowledge when he found that the structural engineer's plans needed to be modified in order to safely and more effectively complete the repairs. The engineer, on two separate occasions agreed with Mr. Peredo's plans and offered to redo the drawings.  First, he recommended doing the demolition of the existing shelf footers in a more conservative but time consuming way and second, he recommended using a single steel I-Beam, instead of two separate sections, even though the larger steel I-Beam was much tougher for his crew to put into place.  In the end, I have no doubt that Mr. Peredo's proposed improvements resulted in a more structurally sound final product.  A crew of four showed up every day, worked their butts off all day, and the worksite was organized/cleaned daily.  Until the new walkout was finished, the crew had to walk through my house to get to the basement/bathroom and put down dropcloths to keep out hardwood floors as clean as possible.  
There were seven or eight different Arlington County inspections required throughout the process and we passed with flying colors each time.  On one of the more complicated phases of work, one of the inspectors stayed for over an hour taking different measurements and scrutinizing the work.
I'd note that I had a terrible experience with a contractor on a different project (sued and won a judgement against him), so Mr. Peredo was OK with my structuring an extremely tight, specific contract with corresponding schedule of progress payments.
I'm a tough customer (especially when I'm spending a lot of money) and, much to the chagrin of my wife, scrutinized his team's progress as soon as I returned from work every day for a month. Just terrific on all fronts.

"All Aspects Waterproofing installed a French Drain and new sump pump in my basement. The project also required adding a curb to the foundation. From the estimate to project close out, all of the employees were great to deal with - very responsive to emails and calls with questions and pro-actively called me to keep me up to date throughout the process of getting the permits and inspections, coordinating with my plumber who took out and installed new hot water heater, and coordinating with my own schedule. All of the workers who came and did the hard work were great - they worked very clean and went above and beyond helping remove items I needed to have out of the way for their work and left my basement and yard (where they needed to do some of the prep like making concrete) spotless. They were great - responsible, knowledgeable, honest, friendly, reassuring - and I would totally use them again. Also, great value."

"We had a crack in our concrete wall from top to bottom, with water leaking inside about mid-way down. We got estimates for this work but the presentation from AquaGuard convinced us they were the ones to go with. So when it came time to do the work I was totally surprised that they could come in, remove our landscaping, dig down about 8' deep and 6' wide to the foundation, repair the wall, put in a silo and sump pump, and restore it all such that you would never know anything had been done. And they did it all in one day! My wife was there and she said she was amazed at how they covered the grass with a tarp and all of the dirt being dug out was placed there so as not to disturb the yard. When I got home I expected to see a big hole and possibly a mess of my yard. As I pulled up to my house I assumed they had not come by so I walked around to the side to see what was going on and was really surprised the work had been done and everything returned to normal. Naturally it has not really rained yet for me to see if the repair has worked but when it does I'm sure, based on how professional the outside work was done and from what my wife indicated, the repair will pass with flying colors.
