"CBJ Home Improvement refurbished our large, existing pool deck (new decking/railing) and completed it within 3 days. My husband, Dave, is a Master Carpenter but was unable to tackle the project due to a tight timeline. He understands the inconsistencies in materials (different wood widths, etc.) and what it takes to deliver a quality product. We are extremely happy with the results and the professionalism of the job. They were on time and ready to work each morning. Doug (project manager) kept in contact with us, was quickly responsive to questions and visited the project regularly to be sure everything was going smoothly. Juan (the foreman) exhibited creativity and experience in dealing with the different issues to deliver a top notch result. They rounded off the edges of the drink rail - a finishing touch we hadn't thought of, but that went a long way with Dave. The whole team was very respectful of us, our concerns and the yard - making sure it was kept clean of debris and with min"

"Bill did an excellent job. Will definitely hire Bill again. We had 4 different projects that we needed help with an Bill did them all and did them well. Bill helped us with kitchen counter caulking, needed carpentry to replace rotting wood around the front door, cleaning out and reworking the dryer vent piping plus repaired the back fence gate that was a problem getting stuck for years. Bill was a pleasure to work with and even scheduled the project to suite our availability. As I said we will definitely hire bill again."

"I can't say enough about Harry! He completely renovated my (total gut job) rental. He stripped the house down to the framing, including replacement of loadbearing walls! The entire house is brand new and beautiful! He is trustworthy, reasonably priced and takes much pride in his work! Harry has also completed many projects in my residence! I promise, you will not be disappointed!"

"We were very happy with the work Edwin and his team did. They framed out our unfinished basement, unfinished drywall and painted. They put in extra time and care to make sure everything was done properly. We will definitely hire him and his team for future projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

House framing can be expensive because the materials are pricey, and the job requires a high level of expertise. The more complex the plans, the more expensive the job, but even the most basic frame needs to be installed with high-quality materials and precision. When pricing your home’s framework, remember that a sturdy frame is necessary to create a safe structure.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
