"We got 4 quotes for re-doing our entire exterior stucco walls and found E.M. Texture here on Angi and based on their reviews and price we decided to go with them. They were not the least or most expensive but right in the middle. Eliazar came out and walked through the process with me a few weeks before the job began, and I felt like I was in very good hands. On work day 1 a big crew came out and got to work and never slowed down. It was about an 8 day job with some downtime due to rain, but they came back as soon as it was dry enough to finish. The walls look spectacular! We are a very unique white stucco townhome community on the lake in Columbia and could not be happier with the way it turned out. Several neighbors have already contact E.M. to take on their work as well. Glenda in the office is nice and responsive and very professional. It's a great family business and I cannot recommend them highly enough!"

"Omar’s team added insulation, dry wall as well as painting and recessed lighting in an attic office that had lots of weird angles and was very hot to work in. They worked quickly, asked for input and were just very nice guys. They kept me updated on their progress and they stayed within their cost estimate. Omar always does a good job from small to other tasks. And provides fair and upfront pricing."

"We contracted with Chesapeake for our roof, five replacement windows, siding and gutters. Chesapeake was recommended to us by a colleague who indicated they were very happy with their workmanship. Phase 1 was the roof. The crew included one woman and three guys and the female member of the crew participated in all facets of the tear out and build. They took around four hours to remove the old roof (and install two new sheets of plywood over an area that had rotted). They then took about six hours to completely install the new roof (Certainteed architectural). All in one day. Absolutely amazing to watch such a talented team. Oh, and did I mention that they work in 94 degree heat!! A few weeks later a separate crew came to install the windows. Again, top class workmanship with minimal mess and first-class finish. Phase three of the job included the tear out of our old siding (we had a combination of vinyl, aluminum and wood). The crew of six incredibly skilled Koreans worked in sections and took about five days to complete a complicated job. Their workmanship was truly superb and their attention to detail was just a pleasure to watch. The foreman kept a close eye on all the work and on a few occasions insisted that a particular detail be redone. The finish detail is amazing. We essentially have a new house that is also wrapped tight with insulation. Perhaps the most complicated part of the job was wrapping our large stucco chimney in siding. This required them installing furring strips on the outside of the chimney, then wrapping the chimney in insulation (not sure why but I’m not complaining) and then covering the chimney in siding (we used Certainteed T5 straight edge siding in herringbone color). Turned out beautifully. Mark, our consultant, work with use every step of the way and was willing to requote our job several times to accommodate new features we requested. He made helpful suggestions along the way but was always willing to defer to us on issues of taste. From time to time Mark consulted with Kurt, the owner, on details that were particularly complicated (typically on the spot via a phone call or Mark would take video and get back to us the following day). Kurt was quick with his advice and always texted me with start and delivery dates. Although there were one or two rain delays, all the crews arrived exactly when promised. Everyone was very responsive to our needs. Can’t recommend Chesapeake enough. Mind you, before contracting with Chesapeake, we got several quoteds from some of the larger companies (one that regularly advertises and can sometimes we found at Ace Hardware stores hawking their services and the other better known for their fence work). Both were quoted prices that were exorbitant (in one case three times the cost of Chesapeake). In short, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Chesapeake very highly. A great experience all round (but I’m really happy all the construction is done…too stressful)."

"Beautiful work. Great attention to details. Everything was done quickly and efficiently. They even removed a half roof I had the front of my house are refinished it with new siding for not that much extra. Bob gave me excellent customer service and great recommendations for the siding project. And when it come to price I would say it was the best we had out of multiple estimates. Everything was price appropriatly. I would definitely recommend."

"Paz called, dropped by to give me an estimate, and was able to send someone to get the job done within a few hours. Courteous handyman showed up and did an excellent job: cleaning debris from roof, brushed off moss, cleared out specialized gutters, secured a loose siding."

"I would recommend this business to anyone. JL Graves redid our kitchen. It is in a projected room off the back of the house, mostly covered in glass. On the second day of demolition they discovered that the entire back wall along with the rafter ends were rotted out, presumably from an inept installation of gutters that allowed water to leak into the wall. I suspect that this would be well outside the wheelhouse of most remodelers. There was a lot of reviewing of the situation – the original glass installation was custom made and an expert on glass installation was brought in whose advice was overruled by the owner, one of several decisions that he made that seem to reflect his extensive experience . Ultimately the roof was rebuilt, the rotten rafter ends replaced with a technique called scarf jointing, apparently a boat building technique that the project manager, Mitch, knew how to do. The owner James Graves was very involved in the project and visited regularly. We are very happy with the final result and consider ourselves lucky that we used their company."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

You can use small bits that are up to 3/8 inch in diameter, or larger bits that are 1/2 inch or more in diameter. Make sure the bits you use are coated with carbide or diamond; this information is usually visible on the package. You can also use hole saw bits to drill into stucco.

Quikrete will set without mixing. The process of pouring dry concrete into your concrete form and then adding water is called dry pouring. While this method makes pouring concrete simpler and easier, it reduces its strength and durability. It can be a viable option for small, decorative concrete pavers for walkways or for setting fence posts, but it’s not ideal for pouring slabs that will bear any significant amount of weight.

It’s not advisable to use CLR on stucco. CLR is a powerful acidic cleaner designed for removing tough mineral stains. Stucco is a porous material commonly made of cement, lime, and sand. The acidic nature of CLR can potentially damage or etch the stucco surface, leading to discoloration or deterioration.

It is best to use cleaning solutions specifically formulated for stucco or mild household cleaners mixed with water to clean stucco siding. Always test any cleaning product in a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire stucco surface.

Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.

Failing to repair damaged stucco can lead to significant problems. Cracks can grow and deepen, allowing water and moisture to get behind the stucco. This moisture intrusion can cause water damage, structural issues, and mold or mildew growth. Delaying repairs will likely cost more in the long run as the damage worsens, so it's best to repair your stucco as soon as you notice any signs of damage, such as cracks, holes, or discoloration.
