"Chris was WONDERFUL! I just purchased a home and wanted to have a mold inspection done for peace of mind. Chris took time to explain the process and put my fears at ease with his vast knowledge. He reviewed the test results with me prior to closing which gave me the peace of mind I needed to confirm I was making a good purchase and great investment. "I have zero complaints about our tech, Jack. He was thorough and communicative! We have a system installed through the roof and he was able to paint the exhaust pipe to match the shingles. The front office wasn't as great. We had to schedule a follow up visit because the initial install wasn't going to work. Unfortunately they never put me on the schedule the second time. So my install day came and went but we didn't hear anything from Swat. I calle the next day and no one knew what I was talking about. Our account manager (Brian) was very apologetic and offered to take some money off our install because of the confusion and the fact that there were no available appointments until August 11th. Luckily they were able to add me to the top of their cancellation list, so we ended up with a system just 3 days later. I appreciate their willingness to make it right with me. I would reccommend them to others looking to have a radon abatement system installed."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon enters your home when warm air begins to rise and exits through the roof, creating a vacuum that pulls cooler air from under the foundation. Part of that air is radon, which is an invisible, odorless gas that develops naturally when radioactive particles are deep within the ground. Those particles usually come from decaying matter in soil and rocks.

Radon is the number one non-smoking cause of lung cancer in the United States, but it can cause some other concerning side effects in the meantime. If you have a raspy voice, chest pains, trouble breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any of the above, don’t hesitate to perform radon testing and install a mitigation system as soon as possible.

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.

Radon detection is crucial as prolonged exposure to radon gas, a leading cause of lung cancer, poses significant health risks in residential environments.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.
