"Bill is very detail - I would suggest hiring him before you move into your home only because Bill takes his time with every detail in the home and that could become time consuming. I would recommend that if you are concerned of a specific area (Like I was) let him know up front, particularly if you are already living in the home, this would help. He doesn't need to inspect areas that you are comfortable with in mind at least. So- Was Bill detail = Yes, Was he pricey = No, worth my dollar, Was he professional = Yes, Did he take the time to explain concerns I had = Yes Areas of improvement= A written report on his finding would be nice. "Mark did great work and made the radon abatement system blend well with the house. The office response time was slower than I would have liked, but the price and quality of work was worth the wait. All of the people I interfaced with were extremely helpful and nice. I would highly recommend this company."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that poses serious health risks, infiltrating homes through foundation cracks and unnoticed spaces.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

Your radon mitigation system may be loud because it’s time to replace it. Any sounds are usually from the inline fan that helps create the vacuum and resulting airflow. If you hear a new, loud mechanical or humming noise from your radon fan, it might be time to replace it. Most fans used in radon mitigation systems last up to 10 years, but may need to be replaced sooner.

Installing a mitigation system reduces radon levels, which can cause lung cancer, providing peace of mind and long-term health benefits. It can also increase your home’s value, as many buyers prefer properties with radon safety measures in place. The investment is relatively low compared to the potential health risks associated with prolonged radon exposure.

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.
