"Outdoor Advantage did an amazing job with all three projects. They were punctual and professional, kept good open communication, advised us on all phases of the projects. The workmen were polite and accommodating. We had one issue with the stairs off the new deck which they promptly rectified. I would highly recommend Outdoor Advantage for any projects you might have similar to the ones they did for us."

"Initially, things went extremely well and I waited as long as I could before submitting the report in order to give them the opportunity to address an outstanding concern. I chose this provider because of the combination of reputation/price/scheduling. They were able to get the deck finished sooner than the other contractors. In fact, they were able finish before the contract date and we had use of the deck for labor day. However, there is a wobbly post that was brought to Marty's attention on 9/3. Not a major issue, and up to that point he had been very responsive so I didn't think too much about it when I gave him the final payment. He stated it was a 10 min fix and he would be by that next Tuesday to complete it. That week went by without a word so I called him and he promised that it would be complete by the next Wed. Not a word from him, so I sent him an email and he left me a voicemail stating it would be done the next Wed. Again, not a phone call/email, no communication. Essentially, I've had virtually no communication with Home Deck since they've received final payment. Being a sales professional myself, lack of communication is one of the fastest ways to erode customer confidence. This is a "10 min fix" and it's been almost a month. So naturally, there is concern that if there was a major issue with the deck, we'd be on our own. In their defense, they have stated that they stand by their work. We just haven't seen it in practice yet."

"We needed our deck power-washed and stained. The workman called and came the next day. I asked him if he could also power wash the siding. He gave me an estimate for all the work to be done, I agreed (in writing) and he set to work. He did all of the power washing that afternoon. We agreed on a stain color. He returned the next day to do the staining, which required several coats. Mr. McGavin also was there. The deck looks great and the siding is much cleaner. The men were both pleasant and careful about covering the windows and siding. I would use McGavin again."

"My deck is spotless and so is all the furniture. What typically takes me 2 days to do (a whole weekend!) they were able to knock out in around 6 hours. I was so happy I even bought the crew lunch. Highly recommended."

"The service was provided on the scheduled dates. The work was completed thoroughly; the house and porch look great! All items on the porch and deck were removed and replaced after the work was complete. We would definitely use this company again!"

"Eric and his company definitely earned this positive review and here is why. The first attempt at restoring my patio with replacing the polymeric sand in all the joints didn't go as planned, largely in part of the rainy weather and perhaps some areas where the crew, in my opinion, could have done a better job. The job was paid it full but 2-3 days later, it was quite apparent that the entire job would need to be repeated from scratch. Whereas most other companies, particularly those were already paid in full, would have considered the job "done" and not listened to their client's concerns, Eric and his company DID listen and very promptly returned to the site to determine how to repeat the work with an outcome that was clean, great, and has already received compliments from neighbors and friends. Sometimes the measure of satisfaction is how well you liked the job, but a true measure of satisfaction is how well a company will address and completely resolve all your concerns when mother nature has interfered, etc."

"Start to finish was a great experience.
Removal of everything was done quickly and efficiently.
tiling was done amazing.
I had a vision and Mr. Rodriguez helped being it to life.  We hit one roadblock with an old radiator but he made a beautiful cover for it so I was very happy in the end!

His crew was very respectful and a pleasure to have in the house."

"Vince called me back within hours of my sending him a message through Angie's List.  Even though he does not list Montgomery County as one of his service areas, he was completely willing to help us out.  In my message, I had requested the work to be done onsite but Vince explained why having him pick up the generator and take it back to his shop to work on it would make more sense.  His charge for pick-up and delivery back to us was only $34.95.
When Vince came to pick up the generator, he was on time and was able to give me a ballpark cost for the work (which turned out to be very accurate).  He said that he could get it back to us in 3-4 days but I asked if he could do it faster as there was a snow storm predicted for the next day or so.  Vince agreed to a shorter time line and ultimately got the generator back to us within 1 day!  There ended up being no snow storm but we got our generator back in working condition - along with a booklet of care instructions, a copy of our invoice, and a service history form.  A few days later we received a hand-written Thank You card in appreciation of our business.  I can't imagine how the service could have been any better.  We will use Vince for any future small engine repairs/maintenance we have and highly recommend him and his services.

"The men who completed our job were professional and did all we asked for.  They were on time and did excellent quality work.  It was an incredibly  hot summer day, but they worked hard and got the job done.  My husband and I were very pleased with Goode Design's work.  We used them to paint our shutters and now the deck.  We would definitely use their services again.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

While eco-friendly decking, also called composite decking, is a win for the environment because it consists of recycled materials, it has trade-offs. These sustainable options often come with steeper price tags, lack natural wood's warm look, and can become uncomfortably hot under full sun. Some composite materials can also become slick when wet, posing a potential hazard.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.

Before installing any materials under the deck for removing moisture, you should perform some prep work on the ground. Work the dirt under the deck to create a grade away from the home. A grade of at least six inches for every 10 feet works well. Do not leave a gap between the dirt and the home’s foundation where water could pool. Once you or a contractor regrades the dirt under the deck, you then can add materials over the top.

A deck is typically attached to a house and accessed via the back door. Decks are usually constructed from wood or composite materials. A terrace, on the other hand, is a raised platform that can be attached to or detached from the house and is typically made from a hard-paved material, such as paving stones. Terraces can be built on the ground or on the roof of a home.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.
