"We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015 and with Javier in remodeling of 1 bathroom, construction of an outdoor shed, and finally remodeling of our 1st and 2nd floors. The construction area consisted of two sides of the basement--the “finished” side for an office *** guest room plus a small hallway; the other, a larger “unfinished” side for storage. The project began by moving everything in the small hallway to other parts of the house. Then they cleared what would be the “finished” side of the basement moving the sofa bed, several desks, 3 bookcases, a couple office chairs, a table, several bookcases, 7 file cabinets, clothes and other items from the closet, and numerous boxes of books plus files removed from file cabinets to the other side of the basement or, when necessary, to other parts of the house, outdoor shed, and garage while they worked on the “finished” side. Some of the items in the “unfinished” side had to be moved out of the basement to another part of the house to make room for heavier items that could not be lugged upstairs without breaking someone’s back. Two more file cabinets that I had not yet emptied they moved on a dolly to the other side of the basement. I regretted having emptied the 7 other file cabinets so that even more boxes with file contents had to be carefully labelled and moved to the other side. That was my fault! It was a complex undertaking since we were adding to what was already stored on the “unfinished” side, but the men were creative, cooperative, and experienced in meeting the challenge with us. The work began on the “finished” side and small hallway with demolition of the existing ceiling and lighting. Once the men cleaned up that mess they installed electrical cabling, wood, and drywall for the ceiling. They repaired the 2 feet of drywall around the bottom perimeter of the wall. Once the basic structure was in place they applied 2 coats of plaster to the walls and ceiling, and then sanded them. They taped the corners and joints. Following our selection of paint, they applied primer on the walls and ceiling, sanded, and then applied 2 coats of off-white paint to the walls and ceiling. What a beautiful transformation of the walls! To prepare for the installation of the luxury vinyl tile floor planks on the “finished” side and hallway they evened out the existing concrete with additional concrete. They lay the beautiful, brownish-gray floor planks on the concrete floor. Javier convinced us that the brownish-gray would be a good selection and he was right. Then the men installed baseboards and shoe molding around walls of the finished side and hallway. At some point they installed 8 recessed lights. What amazing acoustics in that room while it was still empty! In the latter phase of the “finished” side Alvaro repaired, sanded, and painted the stairway and lay the luxury vinyl tile floor planks to the stairs. To match the stairway, he sanded and stained the stair railing to match the stairs. He also repaired, sanded, and painted the walls off-white on either side of the stairway and the ceiling. Finally he painted the door separating the basement and kitchen. What a major transformation of that stairway! We were so pleased with the results! In the next phase of the project we transferred our attention to the “unfinished” side. After covering all the furniture, boxes, etc. with plastic they installed electrical cabling, wood, and dry wall on the ceiling. Then they applied plaster to the ceiling, sanded it, primed and painted it with 2 coats of paint. Then they installed 11 recessed lights to what previously was a deep, dark dungeon. When that major work was completed and the plastic removed, they vacuumed the area as best they could and moved the furniture and some of the boxes and bins back to the “finished” side. After a gap in construction Alvaro installed four heavy-duty, industrial-welded, steel storage units with adjustable shelves along the walls of the “unfinished” side of the basement so we didn’t have to worry about flimsy shelves collapsing with the weight of heavy boxes and plastic bins. Gradually we filled the shelves and file cabinets, moving some items temporarily stored in other parts of the house back to the basement. Alvaro (?) also installed a steel storage unit at one end of the garage to hold our daughters’ heavy boxes, some of which had been moved out of the basement and were collapsing with the weight of far too many boxes stacked on each other. Thanks to Javier for that creative solution to the problem! The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not directly related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, installing hardwood/vinyl floors and lighting in the basement. Once the major work was done in the basement they went upstairs and moved some of the remaining displaced items to other parts of the house, garage, and shed. They installed a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector, secured 2 bookcases to the wall, installed 3 transition pieces on the floors beneath the doorways, and installed 3 dimmers for the lights. After completing most of the work in the basement they performed extra tasks not listed in the contract upstairs, tasks like tightening the screws in a door that would not close, installing a toilet seat, repairing a knob on one of our utility closets, and moving an office chair in the family room to the garage for goodwill. Fabio installed 4 internet connections: 2 in the basement, 1 in the family room on the ground floor, and 1 in the den on the second floor. Finally my husband and I could use our computers! Then when all was said and done the men installed dimmers swept and cleaned the two sides of the basement and hallway one last time. Bon trabajo! The quality of materials and workmanship on the basement remodeling was exceptional as we have come to expect of this company. And because we are an elderly couple we really appreciated the extra help in moving things around in the basement and around the house. The workmen were reliable, polite, honest, skilled, hardworking, and flexible in adjusting to additions and changes from time to time. They always took extra care to clean up at the end of the day and to pick up trash as it was collected. The price seems reasonable given the extra work not previously budgeted. Javier was great at planning, communicating, and allowing for extra time when we needed it to make decisions on where to put things or to do some of the moving ourselves, but he could certainly have benefited from having a right-hand man to assist him when he was not immediately available. We would highly recommend DMV for home remodeling projects. "WaterStone did a complete remodel of our smallish master bathroom (9' by 9'). They were responsible for all aspects of the project including design, permitting, materials and construction. We had an initial budgetary estimate of 30 to 35K for what we wanted. Other companies either told us the design we wanted (which required relocating plumbing and electrical) was either infeasible or way above our budgetary estimate. Jeff came in, listened to what we wanted and gave us design options that met our needs. After a couple of iterations, we settled on a design and Jeff provided an estimate from $32K to 38K depending on our material selections. He gave us a range of material allowances that were actually reasonable. Ultimately, the contract was executed for just under 38K - no overruns!. Jeff and Deanna helped us make the material selections while keeping us within budget (we went over some allowances and under others). We did not have to make any compromises on our vision for the bathroom. The project was finished in 8 weeks vice the proposed 5 to 6 weeks due mainly to a more difficult than expected demolition and the lead time for the shower glass. Jeff (owner), Deanna (designer), Jake (project manager) and Javier (on site project lead) were personable and easy to deal with. As usual with a project of this magnitude, there were a couple of hiccups along the way. The measure of a contractor is not the issues they have but how quickly and effectively they resolve the issues and WaterStone was topnotch in that regard. Problems were addressed and fixed right away. Two stories that demonstrate why we liked working with WaterStone so much: 1) we wanted quartz countertops but bathroom vanities usually require much less than a full slab. When their normal stone supplier would only quote a full slab which was way over our budget, WaterStone called several other suppliers and found one with a remnant that would meet our needs and would not break the budget; and 2) the glass supplier raised some issues about our proposed design for the shower glass and we started down the path of an alternate, much more expensive design. When Jeff heard, he came over immediately and talked us off the ledge about our concerns with the original design, ultimately saving us from a costly design change. WaterStone designed and built a bathroom that matched our vision for the price we were quoted. We've been using the bathroom for about 6 months now with no problems or issues. The workmanship from the crafts (plumbing, electrical, tile, glass) is superb. They respected our house and minimized any disruption (we slept in our master bedroom throughout the renovation). WaterStone is a gem."

"Long story short, Allen was a pleasure to work with and I am so glad I found him to install an awning over my side exit. Short story long, I knew I was going to hire Allen over the other contractors I had talked to just from the estimate. Allen came by and took measurements, started writing up general designs while I was there, and talked through the details of the project with me. I have worked on several DIY projects with my dad and this was the same process we would take if we were doing it. Estimate aside, the work was well done and I am really happy with the result. Allen did the work himself with one other person and they were able to finish within their timeframe, which they had left a few days space for rain. This isn't like where you talk with a salesperson and then it's a completely different crew doing the work. Overall, highly recommend Allen and Arms Home Improvement. Because this is quality work, it is a bit expensive, but it was no more pricey than other estimates."

"Joe Zouine, was our designer and worked closely with us to be sure that we were making the most of the space we had in our kitchen. He asked great questions and we were able to get the project off the ground in a matter of weeks, from the time of the design and contract to actual start of the project. The project began on schedule and the demo of the old kitchen was complete in about 3 hours! The completion of the new kitchen took a good bit longer than anticipated due to some miscommunication with regard to where the permits were to be obtained, but the finished product is amazing. For the most part, we couldn’t have asked for better communication from VKB. At the end of every work day, the Project Manager called me to ask if we had any concerns, if the workers arrived on time and asked approximately when they wrapped up for the day. At the end of those daily conversations, we were asked if the workers were polite, took precautions so as not to cause any more disruption to my daily routine as necessary, and that they cleaned up behind themselves at the end of the day. We were always happy to report that they indeed did as they were instructed and I was also told at what time to expect the workers the next day. The Project: • Demolished the old kitchen and hauled it away • Moved my current refrigerator to my garage and got rid of the old refrigerator that had been in the garage prior to the project. • Moved the range (which was new and was being kept) to the garage with the new appliances • Removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen area and the half wall between the kitchen and breakfast room. • The wall between the dining room and kitchen was found to be load bearing and required the installation of a support header. One was installed according to PG County specs. The City of Laurel specs, however, were a bit more stringent and required a much larger and differently placed header. The header was ordered and was installed properly and to code. • Removed drywall from the exterior facing wall in the kitchen, and installed much better insulation, vapor barrier, and used heavier drywall materials in order to make sure that the kitchen was sufficiently insulated. The insulation that was there was not nearly sufficient. • They reworked the vaulted ceiling in the dining room so that the ceiling fixture could be located to the center of the ceiling instead to one side as the builders had placed it. It had always bothered me and figured while we were making a huge mess, we’d take care of that too. Now the ceiling medallion fits perfectly. • They replaced all of the baseboards and painted same. They also painted the walls, window trim, and ceilings. • Removed the old flooring, leveled the floors where they were not level and installed the new flooring. Originally we’d wanted to get large plank tiles for the kitchen (extending into the dining room and breakfast room), but was advised that, since our house is on a crawl space, the tile would be very cold and we’d probably feel it through out shoes. We went with something that had the same appearance, but was much better insulating material. This conversation saved us from an extremely cold floor and saved money. • The recessed lighting, dimmers, lighting fixtures and electrical outlets were installed. Our job required a completely new (much larger) electrical panel. The expense was expected since we were adding a few additional items for future projects and wanted to make sure that the GFI outlets were placed correctly. This was also an added complication because of being located in the City of Laurel. The building codes are different from county to county and even areas within a county. There was a little confusion about this, but they worked through the difficulties and made it right. • The cabinetry was finally installed and it was beautiful. When they unpacked the new refrigerator, we noticed that it sat out much further into the room then we expected. We all scratched our heads for a bit and came up with a fix for the problem. It was an added expense, but it wasn’t the fault of VKB. We measured the width and height of the new larger refrigerator, but never imagined that it would be THAT much deeper than the old refrigerator. Boy, were we wrong! We had the cabinets on the refrigerator side of the kitchen, uninstalled and pulled forward, flush with the wall, so that the refrigerator fit much better. They even moved the water line for the ice maker way over in the corner of the refrigerator space so that the refrigerator could go back a couple of inches. • They installed the new microwave and placed the existing range back in place, a more powerful disposal, and an Instant Hot. • The granite was installed over the kitchen counters and coffee bar as was the glass tile back splash. A couple of items need adjustments and those items were taken care of as requested. • The vertical dividers for my baking sheets, which went in the cabinet over my refrigerator, took many weeks to come in, but they were definitely worth the wait. • We have changed out the plain glass panels from the kitchen cabinets for ones with a “rain” texture. The plain glass constantly needed to have finger prints removed. The textured glass will also require cleaning of course, but the day-to-day smudges are not nearly so apparent. We love our new kitchen and are looking forward to working with VKB on as many as three additional projects, master bath, guest bath and powder room. VKB may not be the least expensive renovation specialist, but we can say that we got out money’s worth, otherwise, why would we consider hiring them for additional projects in our home. We’ve included a number of pictures of the kitchen before and after the renovation. As you can see from the before and after pictures, it was quite an amazing transformation."
