"I can?t say enough good things about Neale and his brother Jerome.  I called on a Sunday night and left a message for a repair to the wrought iron railings on my front steps and landing.  Jerome called me Monday morning. He was very professional and friendly. He asked me to take pictures of the railing and email them to him. I thought that was a little unconventional, but it worked out very well. It saved him the time of driving down to look at it and my taking off work to meet him.

Neale called me that evening after I sent the pictures. He was bubbly and a pleasure to talk to. A few of the railing posts had rusted so badly they were no longer attached. The hand rails were covered in rust. I told Neale the whole thing would need to be replaced for sure.  He said he?d be happy to replace it, but he knew he could repair it. I was skeptical, but if I could save the cost of replacement, why not?  Neale could have had a bigger job if he agreed to replace the railings, but he did the honest and professional thing. He only did what was needed.  I didn?t want to take time off to be here when the job was done. Neale said that was ok if I had an outside electrical outlet available for his equipment. Unfortunately, I don?t.  I offered to run an extension cord out the window, but he was concerned if he tripped a breaker, not only could he not finish the job, but I might lose power to something important in the house.  It was very thoughtful that he was concerned about such things as how it might affect me. Then he offered to come the next Saturday to fit my schedule.

The day of the repair, they were running about 30 minutes late and they called beforehand to let me know.  Neale and Jerome showed up full of smiles and laughter. They got right to work and completed the job in only 2 hours. Neale deftly, cut out the damage posts and welded in new ones. Jerome got to work sanding away the rusted handrails. After they painted the entire thing, it is as good as new. I can?t even tell the repair to the posts was done.

Neale did a great job. I recommend him highly."

"He did an excellent job which required mechanical skill as well as welding skill. Repaired broken hinges on 40 year old kennel run gates. Tricky because part of the hinge was firmly attached to a cinder block wall. I will definitely have him do more work in relation to the kennel stalls. A wonderful competent welder."

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

The depth of the fence posts depends on the height of your fence. If you’re installing a 6-foot fence, then digging 2-foot-deep holes for the fence posts will help ensure a secure installation. However, if you’re installing an 8-foot fence, the posts will need to be deeper than 2 feet to support the structure properly. Also, consider how far apart the fence posts should be to provide adequate support.

Pickets should sit at least 2 inches off the ground to encourage groundwater to flow underneath. Pickets can sit as much as 6 inches off the ground, but setting it any higher could let pets in or out of your yard unintentionally. These are not to be confused with the fence posts anchored underground with soil or concrete footing.

Yes, many manufacturers and installers offer warranties. Confirm terms before starting your project.

There are many types of fences available to homeowners, including wood, chain link, wire, concrete, brick, corrugated metal, and more. Some fences offer practical solutions for pets and wild animal deterrents, while others offer aesthetics that boost curb appeal. Consider what you’re looking for in a fence to help you decide which is best for your home.

Posts for a horizontal fence should be no more than 6 feet apart. Wood pickets are not as strong when mounted horizontally as when mounted vertically. As such, the fence panels on a horizontal fence can’t cover the same span between posts as a vertical fence can. If you install the posts further apart on a horizontal fence, the fence will lose stability, making the boards more likely to sag.
