He provided me with several suggestions on how to best repair the deck including options to either go with more expensive solutions that entailed more work but would last longer as well as simpler solutions that would perhaps be good for 5-10 years. He responded to all of my questions with very good explanations and also went over the pros and cons of other ideas that I had in mind.
