"Jose and his team did an excellent job cleaning up our entire yard, mulching, trimming and removing all yard waste. They also installed a new retaining wall. All services were performed as well as described or better. Everything was completed on time and on budget, and the cost was very reasonable. The yard looks 100 times better than before. Thanks!"

"All the work was done safely, professionally, and quickly. Mr. Lopez consulted with me throughout the work process to ensure I was satisfied. The crew carefully removed objects that were in harms way, as well as carefully worked around nearby structures. The crew also did some extra work to move some previously downed trees to a non-conspicuous area (free of charge). The yard was completely restored to its previous condition without any work debris on the lawn areas. I could not have been more satisfied with the estimating process, the workmanship, and the price."

"The Landscaping work that was performed was of excellent quality and he even improved some previously completed work that really complemented what he did. He always kept me informed of the status of the project gave me heads-up about preventive maintenance that he would perform. Overall, a job well done."

"Rick returned our calls promptly and gave us a fair quote for services. Baumann's does not overcharge or upsell. Once we settled on Baumann's Landscaping as our contractor, we called Rick and the crew were out the next morning promptly at 9am. We were expecting two days of work to clear the brush, but they completed the job in 4 hours. The crew went above and beyond, killing vines choking our trees, mulching all the deadfall, and pushing the brush line all the way back beyond the trees (we live on Maryland wetlands). Fast, prompt, great job. Would absolutely hire again. A++."

"Greg did a very professional job - showed up at the promised time, had all the right tools, had screen to shield my flowers from the chips, did the work promptly, did the work throughly, moved the first layer of chips away and then went in a chipped away more. I could not have been happier. If i need such work again he will be my first call."

"5 star experience with Calvert County Tree Experts! I have hired this company more than once and each time has been outstanding. Most recently I hired them to trim some trees and also drop a couple of very large trees in my yard. Some of this work was very close to the side of my house and the entire crew did an amazing job ensuring there was no damage to my home. They went above and beyond by trimming and cutting back extra trees, clearing out brush and cleaning up my entire yard once the work was complete. The owners treat their customers like family. Entire crew was very professional. Pricing was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this company."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

If you have a lot of trees around your home, mulching all those leaves can smother the lawn. Air and light won't reach the grass and soil if too many leaves have been mulched. Turf grass and other lawn problems can arise if the weather is too wet and excessive leaves have been mulched.

Leaf removal isn’t always necessary, and what you should do with leaves in your yard depends on the number of trees you have. Leaving a small amount of leaves to decompose on your property can add nutrients to the soil and help grass, plants, and trees thrive. However, large accumulations of leaves can promote mold and fungal growth, so you should do at least two fall cleanups if you have many trees on your property.

To remove a shrub, start by cutting back the shrub using pruning shears, loppers, or a chainsaw. Next, dig around the base of the shrub with a pointed shovel to expose its root system. Then, use a shovel or a mattock to loosen the roots, making it easier to pull or lift the shrub from the ground. For larger shrubs or stubborn root systems, attaching a chain or strap to the base and using a vehicle to pull it out can be effective. Ensure proper disposal of the shrub and its debris following local waste disposal guidelines.

If you don’t have too many fallen leaves, one option is to leave them in place. They’ll eventually decompose, adding vital nutrients to the soil. But if you have a thick layer of leaves smothering your lawn, you’ll want to either mulch them or bag them up for removal. If you choose to collect and bag your leaves, check with your local municipality on any specific guidelines to dispose of them. Many cities offer curbside pickup if the leaves are disposed of in yard waste bags or containers.

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.
