"Our sprinkler system is newly installed so I cannot rate customer service other than for the period prior to and during installation. The initial encounter with Martin was very positive and he was responsive in addressing my follow-on questions and concerns. I chose Burge after evaluating 3 companies. "The person carrying out this winterization is someone I had not used previously as my previous irrigation company dissolved. This individual at Atlantic has over 20 years working with the company and was superb in carrying out the winterization and in one instance where the top of a fixture was missing creating a situation for large leak (that I wished repaired at this time) he found the missing part nearby and replaced it...without charge !! Needless to say...after arriving the morning after I made a request for an irrigation company...with cold weather arriving the following day...I couldn't be more happy with the result and service. I will retain and contract this company for all of my lawn irrigation needs in the future...!!"

"Jessie and his team went above and beyond for me on short notice. I called him at 4pm for an emergency clean up that needed to be done. Even though my property was 30 miles away, Jessie was there 9 am sharp the next morning. Now that is dedication to your customer if I say so!!! GREAT JOB! They took care of the entire lawn. Even being extra careful around the many obstacles and even a fountain in the back yard. They took the time to do the job right! I will be calling again! Make sure you book him today. He is coming back next week to power wash my house as well."

Bahia grass is not difficult to grow, but you might need patience for this slow-growing grass. Whereas some grass species, like Bermuda grass, can take 1 to 2 weeks to germinate, Bahia grass can take two or three times as long, making it seem like it won’t grow. But again, once your Bahia grass is established, it requires little maintenance. Its deep root system makes it a very durable grass that can bounce back after freezes and droughts. 

First, you should figure out whether you have dormant or dead grass. Dead grass won’t come back, so you’ll have to reseed if you’re hoping for a lush lawn. However, grass can go dormant if it hasn’t received enough water or if temperatures are too cold. If it’s still decently warm outside, you can revive dormant grass by watering it. But if it’s mid-January in New England, for example, you’ll need to wait until the weather warms up again. If you want to keep grass green in winter, consider a grass like Kentucky bluegrass, which maintains its color year-round.

Although these terms sound similar and are sometimes used interchangeably, overseeding and reseeding your lawn are very different processes. Overseeding, the simpler of the two, involves a few steps to restore thinned or patchy grass by raking, aerating, and seeding uneven areas of turf to promote regrowth.

Reseeding a lawn is a more drastic and involved process, often necessary if the lawn is diseased, more than a third dead, or very overgrown with weeds. Unlike overseeding, it requires removing most of the existing lawn and starting a new one from scratch, a much bigger and more time-consuming job.

You can, like you can put too little down. Sowing too much grass seed can create competition between the seeds for resources (light, water, nutrients) and the seedlings could struggle to grow. When you sow too few, your lawn will come in thin. Your seed product has a recommended seeding rate, so use that as your guide.

If it’s been a few weeks and you haven’t seen anything pop up, double-check your seed packet and make sure you didn’t miss any steps. Did they need cold stratification (putting seeds in the freezer and then transferring to water before planting)? Do they have an exceptionally long germination period? 

 If you’ve followed all of the directions closely, you may just have had a bad batch of seeds. (Sadly, it happens.)
