"Zen Windows advertises that they make things easy, and that they do. Zen windows doesn’t just make things easy, they have quality products, reasonable prices and exceptional service. We just had an entry door replaced and everyone we worked with was great. While they don’t push you into buying any products, they do go out of the way to help you make the right decisions. Everything went exactly as they told us, the installers were top notch and the finished product looks great. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend Zen Windows to anyone looking for doors or windows."

"Excellent work. The person who assisted us was gruff and no-nonsense, but professional. He asked that we send a photo of the window, which we did. He then came out and measured the window. He came back a couple of days later, and completed the work. The window looks fantastic, and we are very pleased with his work."

"Supply chain crisis or not, we eventually got our beautiful window replaced and are so thankful to have it installed before the end of the year and the coldest months. Once our window found its way to Maryland, Horace and team got it to our house and installed within days during a holiday week."

"At first I was extremely apprehensive about buying all new windows for my home from one vendor all at once. Because, I was completely burned in the past from a previous contractor and they installed a few of my windows about 3 years ago and didnâ t complete the job, it was a horrible experience and left a very negative feeling regarding purchasing windows from anyone in the future with the fear of being taken advantage of again. However, after analyzing and getting great descriptions of the windows and the installation process, I found it worth taking the chance and in my best interest to have ARHT Home Solutions do the work for me. His workforce was very professional and I was very satisfied with my new windows. I have decided also to use ARHT to install a new front door and storm door after the completion of the new windows that were installed. They showed up on time and was very patient with me, the work ethic was great through the entire process and am completely satisfied."

"Team from Power completed the work on time and cleaned up well after work was completed. Windows were measured correctly so replacement windows fit perfectly and were quality Pella windows versus no-name windows offered by other vendors."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Finding a reputable contractor for an egress window installation involves researching and vetting potential candidates. Start by searching for local professionals, reading customer reviews, and checking their websites for a portfolio of their work.

Once you have a shortlist, ask the following questions to ensure they are qualified:

• Are you licensed and insured?

• What experience do you have installing egress windows?

• Can you provide references from previous customers?

• Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors?

• What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule?

• How do you handle payment?

Replacing window glass instead of the entire window is more cost-effective, maintains the frame's aesthetics, and reduces waste. It improves insulation and energy efficiency and can be completed more quickly with minimal disruption to the home.

Yes, you absolutely need a permit to add a window to your house. Your contractor can likely obtain this permit on your behalf. Ask about this when getting quotes from multiple window contractors.

The material around a window is simply called the window frame, but the individual pieces also have different names. The top portion of the frame is called the head, the side pieces are called jambs, and the bottom portion is called the sill. If you have multiple windows next to each other, you’ll also have a mullion, which is the frame piece that separates the individual windows. Windows stacked on top of each other are separated by a horizontal frame piece, which is called a transom.

Soundproof windows can’t completely block all noises, but they will significantly reduce sound from the road, sky, or your neighborhood’s weekend activities. Choose a soundproof window with an STC rating of at least 45 to block bass tones or loud conversations. Laminated glass windows can reduce noise by 75%. You can also add noise-reducing curtains to further muffle loud noises.
