"I liked that there was no nonsense. Their salesman was straightforward and the price was fair. We were also impressed with the installers. They installed all the windows in 1 day and they look great. I'm happy I chose them."

"I used Tin Lizzee to diagnosis my refrigerator. John S. was very knowledgeable and helpful in diagnosing the problem. Lucky for us it was a minor repair. This is a wonderful service that was quick and efficient and affordable. Unlike the other place that I called that wanted to charge me $89-129 for a diagnostic and could not come out until about 2 weeks later. I definitely will use Tin Lizzee again for future appliance issues. I will tell all my friends and family about this service also. Thank you John S and Tin Lizzee for such wonderful customer service."

"In contrast to many of the other people who do this work, Thompson's has someone who answers the phone and makes an appointment for an estimate.  I was especially pleased with the thoroughness of the explanation of the work given by Mike, who did the estimate.  I especially appreciated the how he explained in detail some of the problems that might come up, for example, that my basement stairs would have to be ripped out, and that my laundry sink would probably need to be replaced.  The vendor I spoke with before tended to gloss over what the work would actually be like.  Once the work started I saw that both these things had to be done, but I really appreciated knowing about it BEFORE the work started.  The price was good so I signed up.  I was pleased with the progress of the actual job, supervised by Danny.  The crew worked long hours, were pleasant and easy to deal with,  and finished the job up quickly.
I was particularly impressed with the support after the job was finished.  In the process of disconnecting and reconnecting the laundry sink, the plumber took one look at the 70 year old lead drain pipe and told me that it might get cracked in the process.  He was correct!  But I was very pleased with the response.  Jeff, the general manager, sent someone out right away to bust up a big section of the cement floor to expose the cracked pipe.  The plumber came in and fixed the pipe and a few days later another Thompson's crew came out to cover the area up with fresh cement.  It all went very smoothly with no extra charge from Thompson's.   One other nice feature, by the way, is the fact that the Thompson's warranty can be transferred when you sell your house.   So the takeaway is this:  getting a channel drain installed is a messy, noisy, dusty job, but Thompson's made it a better experience than it might have been.

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Watch for discolored water, sediment, or low pressure, which indicate internal pipe corrosion in older Cumberland homes. Schedule plumbing projects before October to prepare for freezing winter temperatures. Spring thaws also reveal damage from winter freeze cycles. If your property still has original galvanized steel or lead service lines, or lacks recent permits, hire a licensed professional to inspect and upgrade your system.

Helpful?

Treat any plumbing vulnerabilities in unheated spaces as urgent before October to prevent freezing. Address slow drains or sewage odors in your basement immediately, as these signal failing sewer laterals. A failing water heater also requires prompt attention before winter demand increases. Delay non-leaking fixture upgrades or water softener installations for a few months in MD.

Helpful?

Inspect your home for mismatched pipe materials joined without proper transition fittings. Look for drain lines with insufficient slope or missing cleanouts on sewer laterals. Older MD homes feature a patchwork of corroded galvanized pipes or lead solder that requires replacement. Check for visible patching on cast iron stacks or flood-related plumbing repairs that bypass damaged areas improperly.

Helpful?

Homeowners underestimate the time required for permit processing and inspection scheduling. Opening walls for plumbing work reveals hidden hazards like asbestos insulation or corroded galvanized pipes requiring full replacement. Residents in Cumberland flood zones overlook insurance compliance rules for below-grade work. Finally, local contractors book up quickly by early fall, making winter preparation difficult without advance planning.

Helpful?

Hillside topography creates irregular foundation depths and requires ejector pumps for below-grade plumbing. Rock ledges complicate excavation for sewer lines. Older clay or Orangeburg sewer laterals are highly prone to root intrusion and collapse. Additionally, properties located in the historic downtown face exterior design restrictions. High elevation changes across Cumberland also cause significant water pressure variability, requiring pressure-regulating valves.
